Charles Abouo's double-double lands him Player of the Week award among Ivorians playing currently abroad: - Feb 1, 2018

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Ivorians who are currently playing abroad.


Charles Abouo

   #1. This week's number one is former international swingman Charles Abouo (196-89, college: BYU, currently plays in France). He led Provence Basket to a victory over the league leader Entente Orleans 45 (14-2) 81-74 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game. Abouo was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 10 rebounds. Abouo also added and 5 steals in 33 minutes on the court. FOS Provence Basket (12-4) is placed fifth in the ProB. It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. It's Abouo's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 12.7ppg, 4.8rpg, 2.9apg, 1.8spg, 2FGP: 53.5%, 3FGP: 34.4% and FT: 72.5% in 16 games he played so far. Abouo has a dual citizenship: Ivorian and American. He played for the Ivorian senior national team five years ago.

Mouloukou Souleyman Diabate

   #2. Second place goes to an international point guard Mouloukou Souleyman Diabate (181-87, currently plays in Slovakia). Diabate was the main contributor in Levice's victory against the closely-ranked Rieker KN (15-14) crushing them 88-64 in the Slovakian SBL last Wednesday. He was the best player in that game. Diabate scored 17 points and added 9 assists. BK Levicki Patrioti (21-8) is placed third in the SBL. This season Diabate averages: 7.8ppg, 2.0rpg, 5.0apg, 1.8spg, 2FGP: 56.0%(14-25), 3FGP: 18.2% and FT: 62.5%. He is in the roster of the Ivorian senior national team.

Remi Dibo
Remi Dibo
   #3. The Ivorian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Remi Dibo (201-91, agency: Octagon Europe, college: W.Virginia, currently plays in France). Dibo contributed to a 1-point SPO Rouen's victory against the closely-ranked Caen (7-9) 84-83 in the French ProB (second division) on Friday night. He recorded 18 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks in 36 minutes. SPO Rouen Basket (9-7) is placed eighth in the ProB. Dibo's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. This year Dibo's overall stats are: 9.8ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.7apg, 2FGP: 54.5%, 3FGP: 37.3% and FT: 76.5% in 13 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Ivorian and French. Despite Dibo played previously for the French U16 national team, he played also for the Ivorian national team in 2016.

   #4. Swingman Guy Landry Edi (202-88, college: Gonzaga, currently plays in France) could not help Nantes (5-8) in their last game on Friday. Despite Edi's very good performance Nantes was defeated 83-75 at home by the lower-ranked Poitiers (#15). He recorded a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds. Edi's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is quite important. This season Edi has relatively solid stats: 10.4ppg, 4.4rpg and 1.7apg. He has both Ivorian and French nationalities. Edi used to play for the Ivorian national team back in 2016.

Mohamed Kone

   #5. An experienced former international center Mohamed Kone (211-81, college: Valparaiso, currently plays in France) was not able to help JA Vichy in their game against Chorale de Roanne (12-4) in the French ProB (second division). He recorded 6 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 28 minutes. JA Vichy lost 65-75 on the road to the much higher-ranked (#4) Chorale de Roanne. It was JA Vichy's eighth consecutive loss in a row. Kone's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is extremely important. Kone has reliable stats this year: 11.9ppg, 7.0rpg, 1.1bpg and 1.3spg in 16 games. Similarly like Edi and Dibo above he also holds two passports: Ivorian and French. Kone used to play for the Ivorian national team two years ago.

Dalen Traore
Dalen Traore
   #6. Center Dalen Traore (206, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help University of Evansville to win against the Drake University (8-0) 77-73 in the NCAA in Sunday night's game. He scored only 3 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The University of Evansville has rather weak 3-6 conference record this season. Traore's total stats this year are: 2.7ppg and 3.0rpg. He is a former U19 international player as he played for the Ivorian team five years ago.

   #7. Former international power forward Herve Lamizana (208-81, college: Rutgers, currently plays in Taiwan) was not able to secure a victory for Taiwan Beer (6-14) in their game against Pauian (12-9) in the Taiwanese SBL. Lamizana recorded 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 33 minutes. The bottom-ranked Taiwan Beer was edged 63-61 by the leading Pauian. It was Taiwan Beer's fifth consecutive loss in a row. This year Lamizana's total stats are: 7.5ppg, 5.5rpg and 2.5bpg in two games. He used to play for the Ivorian national team five years ago.

   #8. Point guard Bryan Pamba-Juille (184-92, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Guy Landry Edi and both played together in the last French ProB game. Pamba-Juille couldn't help Nantes (5-8) in their game against Poitiers (5-11). He cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Pamba-Juille recorded only 2 points in 12 minutes. Nantes lost 75-83 on their home court in Nantes to the lower-ranked (#15) Poitiers. Pamba-Juille has averaged so far 4.1ppg, 1.7rpg and 2.4apg in 16 games. He used to play for the Ivorian national team back in 2016.


The list of other players, who all have Ivorian passport but never been selected to any of Ivorian national teams:

   #1. Bazoumana Kone (190-G-93, college: Bremerhaven, currently plays in Germany) led Braunschweig to a victory against the 16th-ranked Oettinger Rockets Gotha (4-15) 82-68 in the German BBL in Sunday night's game. Kone recorded 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Basketball Loewen Braunschweigis placed in the BBL. Kone's total stats this season are: 8.4ppg, 2.7rpg and 3.1apg. He has a dual citizenship: Ivorian and German. Despite Kone's Ivorian passport, he currently plays for the German university national team and is not eligible to play for the Ivorian team.

   #2. Experienced Alain Koffi (207-C-83, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in France). Koffi could not help one of league's weakest teams Pau-Lacq-Orthez (7-11) to beat Olympique Antibes (8-10). He scored 6 points, had 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 27 minutes. Pau-Lacq-Orthez lost 72-78 at home to the higher-ranked (#13) Olympique Antibes. It was Pau-Lacq-Orthez's fifth consecutive loss in a row. This year Koffi has relatively solid stats: 11.6ppg, 5.8rpg and 1.2apg in 18 games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Ivorian and French.

   #3. Willy Kouassi (208-C-91, college: Arkansas, currently plays in Argentina) contributed to a Gimnasia LP's victory against the ninth-ranked Villa Mitre CF (10-14) 75-70 in the Argentinian TNA (second division) in Sunday night's game. Kouassi scored 11 points, had 9 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 24 minutes. Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata (10-11) is placed seventh in South group. It was his team's first victory after five consecutive loses. This year Kouassi's total stats are: 4.2ppg, 2.8rpg and 1.2bpg in five games. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #4. Samuel Amed Diomande (193-G-88, currently plays in Norway) was not able to help Ammerud Bskt (7-13) in their last game on Thursday. Despite his good performance Ammerud Bskt was crushed 104-80 on their home court in Oslo by the leading Asker Aliens. Diomande scored 14 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 7 assists. Diomande is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Ammerud Bskt's roster. He has reliable stats this season: 13.7ppg, 5.0rpg, 3.0apg and 2.3spg. Diomande has both Norwegian and Ivorian nationalities.

   #5. Yoann Louis Folquet (185-G, currently plays in Canada) managed to help University of Laval to win against the Stingers (3-7) 67-62 in the Canadian university league CIS on Thursday night. Folquet scored only 3 points. The University of Laval has a solid 6-3 record this season. The Regular Season already ended. Folquet has been at the team for four years. He has averaged so far 3.8ppg, 2.6rpg and 2.2apg.

   #6. Ismael Sanogo (203-G-96, currently plays college basketball in the States) helped Seton Hall win their game against the De Paul University 86-70 in the NCAA last Monday. Sanogo scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Sanogo has averaged so far 5.1ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.1bpg and 1.1spg. He also holds two passports: Ivorian and American.

Tiegbe Bamba (ex Grindavik) joins Chartres - 21 days ago
TIEGBE BAMBA Chartres Basket Masculins (ProB) agreed terms with 28-year old naturalized Ivorian forward Tiegbe Bamba (204-93kg-91, college: Portland State). He started the season at U.M.F. Grindavik in Icelandic Dominos League. In 11 games he had very impressive stats: 15.1ppg, 9.2rpg, 2.5apg and 1.5spg this season. The most of last season Bamba spent at STB Le Havre where in 13 ProB games he recorded 4.5ppg, 3.6rpg and 1.1apg. He also played for Timba Timosoara (Liga Nationala) in Roma...   [read more]
