Charles Abouo's 30 points make him top Ivorian player abroad of the week - Jan 25, 2018

We bring you last week's top performances from Ivorians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is former international swingman Charles Abouo (196-89, college: BYU, currently plays in France). He led Provence Basket to a victory over the closely-ranked Saint Chamond (10-5) 73-57 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game. Abouo was MVP of the game. He scored 30 points (!!!) and grabbed 6 rebounds in 27 minutes on the court. FOS Provence Basket (11-4) is placed fifth in the ProB. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Abouo has relatively good stats this year: 12.3ppg, 4.5rpg, 2.9apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 52.2%, 3FGP: 35.6% and FT: 72.2% in 15 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Ivorian and American. Abouo played for the Ivorian senior national team five years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international forward Tiegbe Bamba (204-91, college: Portland St., currently plays in France). Bamba contributed to a 1-point STB Le Havre's victory against the closely-ranked SPO Rouen (8-7) 86-85 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game. He scored 10 points. STB Le Havre (4-7) is placed seventh in the ProB. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This season Bamba averages: 5.0ppg, 2.5rpg, 1.5spg, 3FGP: 33.3%. He is another player who holds two passports: Ivorian and French. Bamba is in the roster of the Ivorian senior national team.

   #3. The Ivorian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Mouloukou Souleyman Diabate (181-87, currently plays in Slovakia). He could not help Levice (19-8) to beat Prievidza (18-9). Diabate scored 8 points in 20 minutes. Levice was badly defeated 90-73 at home by the lower-ranked (#4) Prievidza. This year Diabate's overall stats are: 4.3ppg, 1.7rpg, 3.7apg, 2.0spg, 2FGP: 41.7%, 3FGP: 12.5% in three games. He is also a member of the Ivorian senior national team.

   #4. Forward Remi Dibo (201-91, agency: Octagon Europe, college: W.Virginia, currently plays in France) faced previously mentioned Tiegbe Bamba in the French ProB last game. Dibo was not able to help SPO Rouen in their game against STB Le Havre (3-11). He scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 31 minutes. SPO Rouen was edged 86-85 on the road by the much lower-ranked (#16) STB Le Havre. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. This year Dibo's total stats are: 9.1ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.7apg in 12 games. He has both Ivorian and French nationalities. Despite Dibo played previously for the French U16 national team, he is currently in the Ivorian national team roster.

An experienced former international center Mohamed Kone (211-81, college: Valparaiso, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for JA Vichy (5-10) in their last game on Friday. Despite Kone's very good performance JA Vichy was defeated 86-78 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Caen (#10). He was the second best scorer with 16 points. Kone also added 4 rebounds. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. This season Kone has relatively solid stats: 12.3ppg, 6.9rpg, 1.1bpg and 1.3spg. He also holds two passports: Ivorian and French. Kone used to play for the Ivorian national team two years ago.

   #6. Forward Moussa Kone (203-93, college: Hofstra, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Navarra (10-8) in their game against La Roda (14-4) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). He scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Navarra was defeated 92-78 on their home court in Pamplona by the leading La Roda. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. It's Kone's first season with the team. Kone has reliable stats this year: 13.9ppg, 7.9rpg and 2.2apg. He holds both American and Ivorian passports. Kone is a former international player as he played for the Ivorian senior team three years ago.

   #7. Former international center Louri Frejus Zerbo (208-89, currently plays in France) couldn't help Olympique Antibes (7-10) in their game against Paris-Levallois (8-9) in the French ProA. He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Zerbo scored only 2 points in 10 minutes. It was his first game for Olympique Antibes this season. Olympique Antibes lost 73-82 on the opponent's court to the higher-ranked (#12) Paris-Levallois. Zerbo used to play for the Ivorian national team five years ago.

   #8. Center Aboubacar Hima (207-94, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Plasencia (7-11) in their game against Martorell (4-14) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). He scored 6 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Plasencia was defeated 95-85 on the opponent's court by the one of league's weakest teams Martorell (#15). Hima's stats this season are: 11.0ppg and 8.8rpg. He plays currently for the Ivorian national team.

   #9. Former international point guard Bryan Pamba-Juille (184-92, currently plays in France) couldn't help Nantes (5-7) in their game against ALM Evreux (5-10) in the French ProB (second division). Pamba-Juille scored only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 18 minutes. Nantes was crushed 94-57 in Evreux by the lower-ranked (#12) ALM Evreux. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Pamba-Juille has averaged so far 4.3ppg, 1.7rpg and 2.5apg in 15 games. He used to play for the Ivorian national team two years ago.

   #10. Small forward Ismael N'Diaye (197-82, college: FIU, currently plays in Switzerland) couldn't help Lakers (1-17) in their game against Massagno (10-8) in the Swiss SBL. N'Diaye was the second best scorer with 9 points. But the bottom-ranked Lakers were edged 45-43 on their home court in Vevey by the much higher-ranked Massagno (#5). It was Lakers' 17th consecutive loss in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. N'Diaye has averaged so far 6.9ppg, 2.9rpg and 1.3apg. He is a former international player as two years ago he still played for the Ivorian senior national team.

   #11. Former international power forward Herve Lamizana (208-81, college: Rutgers, currently plays in Taiwan) couldn't help Taiwan Beer in their game against Pauian in the Taiwanese SBL. Lamizana recorded 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 33 minutes. It was his first game for Taiwan Beer this season. His team was edged 63-61. Lamizana used to play for the Ivorian national team five years ago.

   #12. Former international swingman Guy Landry Edi (202-88, college: Gonzaga, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Bryan Pamba-Juille and both played together in the last French ProB game. Edi couldn't help Nantes in their game against ALM Evreux. He cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Edi scored only 2 points in 23 minutes. His team was crushed by 37 points 94-57. Edi has averaged so far 9.9ppg, 4.1rpg, 1.7apg and 1.1spg in 15 games. He used to play for the Ivorian national team back in 2016.

   #13. Former U19 international center Dalen Traore (206, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Evansville in their game against the Indiana State University in the NCAA. Traore cannot count Thursday's game as one of the best ones. He recorded only one point. His team was defeated 71-66. Traore has averaged so far 2.9ppg and 2.9rpg. He used to play for the Ivorian U19 national team five years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Ivorian passport but never been selected to any of Ivorian national teams:

   #1. Experienced Alain Koffi (207-C-83, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in France) could not help Pau-Lacq-Orthez (7-10) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance Pau-Lacq-Orthez was edged 89-88 on the road by the much higher-ranked SIG Strasbourg (#4). Koffi was the second best scorer with 18 points. He also added 5 rebounds and dished 4 assists. This season Koffi has relatively solid stats: 11.9ppg, 5.8rpg and 1.3apg. He has a dual citizenship: Ivorian and French.

   #2. Bazoumana Kone (190-G-93, college: Bremerhaven, currently plays in Germany) was not able to help Braunschweig in their last game. Despite Kone's very good performance his team was edged 86-84 in Oldenburg by the lower-ranked (#6) EWE Baskets. He scored 15 points and added 4 passes (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line) in 26 minutes. It's Kone's first season with the team. This year Kone averages: 8.2ppg, 2.5rpg and 3.2apg in 17 games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Ivorian and German. Despite Kone's Ivorian nationality, he currently plays for the German university national team and is not eligible to play for the Ivorian team.

   #3. Adjehi Baru (206-F-91, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: Charleston, currently plays in Bulgaria) was not able to secure a victory for Beroe (2-0) in their game against Balkan (10-3) in the Bulgarian NBL. Baru scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. The league leader Beroe was crushed 92-67 at home by the second-ranked Balkan. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This season Baru has relatively solid stats: 13.0ppg, 8.2rpg and 1.2spg.

   #4. Yoann Louis Folquet (185-G, currently plays in Canada) contributed to an University of Laval's victory against the Citadines (2-8) 79-71 in the Canadian university league CIS on Friday night. He scored 10 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 8 assists in 25 minutes. The University of Laval has a solid 5-2 record this season. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. It's Folquet's fourth year with the team. Folquet has averaged so far 4.4ppg, 2.4rpg and 2.6apg in seven games.

   #5. Willy Kouassi (208-C-91, college: Arkansas, currently plays in Argentina) couldn't help Gimnasia LP (9-11) in their game against Atenas (9-9) in the Argentinian TNA (second division). Kouassi recorded 5 points and blocked 2 shots. The ninth-placed Gimnasia LP (9-11) was crushed 90-43 in Carmen de Patagones by the higher-ranked Atenas (#6) in the South group. It was Gimnasia LP's fifth consecutive loss in a row. Kouassi has averaged so far 2.5ppg and 1.3rpg. Worth to mention he played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

   #6. Ismael Sanogo (203-G-96, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the Seton Hall in their game against the Xavier University in the NCAA. Sanogo recorded 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 30 minutes. His team lost 64-73. Sanogo has averaged so far 4.9ppg, 4.6rpg and 1.1bpg in 17 games. He has both American and Ivorian nationalities.

TIEGBE BAMBA Chartres Basket Masculins (ProB) agreed terms with 28-year old naturalized Ivorian forward Tiegbe Bamba (204-93kg-91, college: Portland State). He started the season at U.M.F. Grindavik in Icelandic Dominos League. In 11 games he had very impressive stats: 15.1ppg, 9.2rpg, 2.5apg and 1.5spg this season. The most of last season Bamba spent at STB Le Havre where in 13 ProB games he recorded 4.5ppg, 3.6rpg and 1.1apg. He also played for Timba Timosoara (Liga Nationala) in Roma...   [read more]
