We bring you last week's top performances from Ivorians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an international swingman
Vafessa Fofana (198-92, currently plays in France). He could not help
Cholet Basket (15-1) in their last game. Despite Fofana's good performance the league leader Cholet Basket was badly defeated
82-64 on the road by the second-ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket.
He was the top scorer with 12 points in a mere 18 minutes on the court.
There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
This year Fofana averages: 4.0ppg, 2.1rpg, 2FGP: 63.0%(29-46), 3FGP: 34.3% and FT: 66.7% in 27 games he played so far.
He is currently a member of the Ivorian senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to an international center
Seydou Aboubacar (207-94, currently plays in Spain). Aboubacar was not able to help
Leche Rio Breogan in their game against Palma (8-10) in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division).
He scored 6 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
The second-placed Leche Rio Breogan (13-5) was defeated
88-81 in S'Arenal by the lower-ranked Palma (#7) in the Places 1-10 group.
It's Aboubacar's first season with the team.
Aboubacar's overall stats this year are: 5.2ppg, 2.6rpg, 2FGP: 55.4%(56-101) and FT: 57.4%.
He has a dual citizenship: Ivorian and Nigerien.
Aboubacar is in the roster of the Ivorian senior national team.
#3. The Ivorian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward
Cedric Bah (198-94, currently plays in France). He was the major contributor in a 3-point
ADA Blois' victory against the 12th-ranked Nantes (4-18)
85-82 in the French ProB (second division) on Friday night.
Bah scored 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 24 minutes.
ADA Blois Basket 41 (19-9) is placed fourth in the ProB.
There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial.
This year Bah's overall stats are: 6.9ppg, 4.3rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 41.7%, 3FGP: 41.9% and FT: 76.1% in 28 games.
He played for the Ivorian national team four years ago.
#4. An experienced swingman
Guy Landry Edi (202-88, agency:
Promotex, college:
Gonzaga, currently plays in Iceland) was not able to secure a victory for
Thor AK (10-12) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Edi's very good performance Thor AK was crushed
98-66 at home by the second-ranked Thor Thorl.
He was the top scorer with 16 points. Edi also added 8 rebounds.
Edi has relatively good stats this season: 11.3ppg, 7.1rpg, 2.1apg and 1.1spg.
He is another player who holds two passports: Ivorian and French.
Edi is also Ivorian national team player.
#5. Former international center
Mohamed Kone (211-81, college:
Valpo, currently plays in France) couldn't help
JA Vichy (15-16) in their game against Paris (20-11) in the French ProB (second division).
Kone recorded 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
JA Vichy was crushed
99-74 on the opponent's court by the much higher-ranked Paris (#3).
There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important.
Kone is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in JA Vichy's roster.
His total stats this season are: 7.9ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.4apg.
Kone has both Ivorian and French nationalities.
He used to play for the Ivorian national team
two years ago.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Ivorian passport: #1. Jonas Zohore (208-C-91, currently plays in Spain). He could not help
HLA Alicante (9-9) to beat Leche Rio Breogan (13-5).
Zohore recorded 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 19 minutes.
HLA Alicante (#6) was edged
88-87 on the road by the second-ranked Leche Rio Breogan in the Places 1-10 group.
This year Zohore's total stats are: 7.6ppg and 4.2rpg in 33 games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: Danish and Ivorian.
