Josimar Cardoso (201-F-87) wins the title abroad as his Lusitania claimed the Proliga championship title in Portugal. They overcame Penafiel on the road in the decisive fifth game of the series to triumph in the country. Its a huge success for the team that had to play with six players throughout the bigger part of the season. Augusto Sobrinho scored 32 points and grabbed 6 rebounds to pace the effort.
Penafiel got to the better start. They accounted for 23 points in the starting frame and earned a 3-point lead at the initial break. But Lusitania tightened their defense in the second quarter. They limited Penafiel to just 11 points in the second period and surged ahead. Lusitania piled up a one-point advantage at the big break 35:34. Lusitania did not slow down in the third period. They stayed concentrated and determined to establish a 51:48 lead into the fourth stanza. The tempo grew in the final frame. Penafiel fired 28 points in the quarter but Lusitania matched the effort accounting for 30 points and sealing the victory at the end.
Mohamed Camara knocked down 16 points and grabbed 12 boards for Lusitania. Daniel Monteiro had 13 points in the victory. James Grabowski netted 25 points and pulled down 10 boards for Penafiel. Alexander Kravtsov and Sidney Holmes dropped 12 points each in the loss.
Before that Lusitania posted the second win over Penafiel in the Proliga championship series. Daniel Monteiro fired 27 points as Lusitania leveled the series at 2-2. Augusto Sobrinho added 22 points for the winners, while Josimar Cardoso netted 17. Sidney Holmes and James Grabowski accounted for 22 points apiece in the loss.
Josimar Cardoso averaged 9.4 points per game and had 4.8 rebounds per game.
