Braves of Customs have missed out qualifying to the AfroLeague Championship slated for next year after failing to make the top three in the recently ended FIBA Africa Zone 3 Qualifiers. The competition was held in Cotonou, Benin.

Braves represented Ghana in the competition and recorded two wins in five games to fall behind Rivers Hoopers and Civil Defenders of Nigeria and Elan Sportif from Benin in the perking order. Braves beat Harbel Pointers from Liberia 80-69 and topped AS Police from Niger with a 75-50 win.

However, losing 64-81 to Elan Sportif, 52-70 to Rivers Hoopers and 53-66 to Defenders respectively cost the Ghanaian team progress to the continental games. The AfroLeague replaces the Africa Champions Cup and will be staged in a different format including home and away games.

There was some level of good news for the team on an individual level as Center Suleman Abubakar and Shooting Guard Baniba Dodzie led the competition in blocks and three point shots respectively. Abubakar was named to the Tournament's top Five marking his second straight call up to the Team.

In last year's competition, Abubakar and Dodzie joined Nigerian veteran Abubakar Usman of Kano Pillars in the elite selection.
