After St. John's School, Sekondi flew the flag of of Ghana's Western Region high at the December 2016 edition of the Sprite Ball Championship, it was the turn of Ahantaman Girls Senior High School to do same in the 2018 competition.

This year's competition ended with the region's sole representative in the female division clinching third place to win the bronze medal at the recently ended tournament which 10 schools compete in the girls division.

Ahantaman beat the likes of then defending champions Wesley Girls High School and West Africa Senior High School to advance to the semifinals for the first time in its history participating in the competition.

However, its quest for an appearance in the finals was halted by eventual champions Kumasi Girls High School who beat them 18-10 prior to clinching a 26-8 win over two time winners Aggrey Memorial Zion Senior High School.

Clinching the bronze medal was the best achievement for Western representatives as St. John's and Takoradi Technical Institute (TTI) crashed out from the competition at the group stage after a winless campaign from both teams.

St. John's lost all games in Group B against Prempeh College, Koforidua Senior High Technical School (KSTS) and St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School. TTI on the other hand has the ignominious record of losing 0-18 to Mfantsipim School and record further losses to Keta Senior High School and male division champions Osu PRESEC in Group A.
