Braves wins the Ghanian Division I 2016 title

Braves crowned champions; successfully defend title - Aug 30, 2016

The Accra Basketball League Women's Division 2016 season ended over the weekend with last season's champions Braves of Customs making a successful defense of its title by beating Reformers of Prisons 50-30 in the final game of the season.

Braves likelihood to defend its title was never in doubt as the team rolled through the season with an unbeaten streak and playing third place Reformers of Prisons on the final day proved to be another walk in the park for the multiple time league winners.

Parading a strong and very deep roster that features 2016 Ghana Basketball Awards Tertiary and Most Valuable Female Player of the Year respectively Matilda Gordon, former Award nominees Berlinda Tawiah and Grace Martina Doe, the side will be competing for more silver ware when the Chairman's Cup is up for grabs later in September.

Navy grabbed its first win of the season on the final day with a well executed 43-28 win over Fire Service that ensured the former ended the season in fifth place just like Coach Alexander Tindani predicted. Due to a superior goal difference, the win tossed Navy above Fire Service whose similar record-one win and eight losses- caught up with the Fire side.

Air Force claimed the second position in the championship. They beat Galaxy 45:36 in the final game of the tournament to clinch the Silver medals.
