KMC Win Medal At International Basketball Tournament in Dakar

The Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) Female Basketball team recently took second at an International Basketball tournament which was hosted in Senegal between four countries, Mauritania, The Gambia, Senegal and Turkey.

The tournament was played at the Stade Demba Anna Marie Diop. The annual tourney played at the Marrus Ndiaye Basketball Court of the Stadia was organised by Anna Marie Diop, a resident of Senegal.

During an interview with Observer Sports, the team manager of K.M.C, Musa P Manneh expressed delight with the performance of his players. He said that even though they went with seven players, they did their utmost best to come out as the runners-up.

He said their first match was against Anne Marie Dioh Basketball team which they lost by 20 baskets to 16, while they won their second match against Turkey by a whopping 20 points to 8. He added that they won their third match in the championship with a 20-12 defeat of Goree of Senegal. Theteam again met Anne Marie Dioh in the final, but the Senegalese side again carried the day with a narrow 20-16 win.

Manneh disclosed that at the end of the tournament, the KMC basketball team was given a trophy, T-shirts and basketballs. He further disclosed that the next edition of the tournament will be hosted in Mauritania in September 2012.

He expressed gratitude to the organiser of the tournament -Anne Marie Dioh, and to the Lord Mayor of K.M.C, Yankuba Colley who is also the CEO of the team together with the Council for their support and encouragement. He further stated that he has good and talented players, but in every game, he said, there must be a best player and his best player for the tournament was Captain Ida Cham.
