Eritrea finishes the first phase of their Basketball Development program

Under the guidance of FIBA and Olympic Solidarity, Eritrea recently concluded a 4 month Young Coaches Training Program, with over 140  coaches in the six provinces receiving certificates upon completion of each 2 week clinic. Each  coach will now form a team and participate in local compititions, with the winners moving on to national compititions. The Eritrean National Basketball Federation, headed by President,Mr. Mehari Tesfai. Vice president,Mr. Turquabo Moba. Secretary General, Mr.Alazar Dawit. Technical Dirictor, Mr Tekaste. Treasurer, Mr Eyop. Womens Director, Ms Hana and Press Secretary, Mr Simon Stifanos. played an integral role in the organization and success of the program. President Ghirmay Hadju, of the Eritrean Olympic Committe was also an active participant and pledged the Olympic Comittees support for the coaches.
The second phase for the next two months involves the formation of the Mens, Under 20 and Women's National Teams, as well as training for upcoming East Africa Zone 5  qualifying championships.
A knockout tournament featuring the top mens and womens 1st division teams from the capital of Asmara, is under way and will conclude next weekend. This will be followed by the 1st Division Men's and Women's Championships.
