Jay Threatt claims Egyptian Superleague weekly honour

Experienced American Jay Threatt (180-PG-1989) had an amazing evening in the last round for Smouha Sporting Club and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 11.
The 36-year old playmaker got a double-double of 21 points and 14 assists, while his team edged out Al Gezira (3-5) 80-79. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on top of the standings. Thanks to this victory Smouha moved-up to the 10th position in Egyptian Superleague. Smouha is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 3-5 record. Threatt turned to be Smouha's top player in his first season with the team. Delaware State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Threatt is in league's top in points (3rd best: 17.1ppg) and averages solid 52.2% FGP and 55.8% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young former international center Omar Oraby (218-C-1991) of second-ranked Al Ahly Cairo. Oraby impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds. Bad luck as Al Ahly lost that game 69-81 to league's leader Al Ittihad Al. (#1, 8-0). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Al Ahly still maintains its place in the top 2 of the standings, even despite this loss. It was just his team's 1st loss this season, while they won 7 other games. Oraby is a newcomer at Al Ahly and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was international forward Khaled Abdelgawad (204-PF-1999) of Al Zamalek Cairo (#7). Abdelgawad showcased his all-around game by recording 27 points, 11 rebounds (!!!) and 5 assists in the last round. Despite Abdelgawad's great performance the Zamalek lost 77-88 to slightly lower-ranked WE Sporting (#8, 4-4). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Zamalek needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 4 victories and 3 lost games. Abdelgawad has a great season in Egypt. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 16.1ppg (5th best) and rebounds with 8.7rpg (6th best).
