Khaled Abdelgawad claims Egyptian Superleague weekly honour

International Power forward Khaled Abdelgawad (204-PF-1999) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Al Zamalek Cairo and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 26-year old power forward had a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds, while his team beat Sporting (#14, 1-4) 86-75. Zamalek is placed at 6th position in Egyptian Superleague. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost two games earlier this season. Zamalek will need more victories to improve their 3-2 record. In the team's last game Abdelgawad had a remarkable three three-pointers out of 6 attempts. He turned to be Zamalek's top player in his first season with the team. Abdelgawad has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in rebounds (6th best: 8.6rpg) and averages solid 1.6bpg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was Youssef Madaawy of Heliopolis Cairo. Madaawy impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds. It was enough for Heliopolis to edge the lower-ranked Damanhour (#11, 2-3) by 6 points 73-67. Heliopolis' 5th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost some distance to top teams. But a 3-2 record is not bad and everything may still change. Madaawy is a newcomer at Heliopolis and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 16.5ppg (#6). His other stats are also decent: 10.8rpg and 4.3apg.

The third best performed player last round was Ahmed Marei of Al Shams Cairo (#15). Marei scored 22 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Despite Marei's great performance the Al Shams lost 63-72 to the league's current leader Canal (#3, 5-0). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Al Shams can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-4 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Marei has a very solid season. In 5 games in Egypt he scored 9.8ppg.

10. Kenny Brown (183-PG) of WE Sporting - 26 points and 6 assists
