Defending champion Sakers/1691">Changwon LG Sakers (KBL) added 33-year-old Egyptian international center Assem Marei (206cm-113kg-1992, college: MSU) to their roster for the 2025-26 season. He is the second foreign player on the team, with Nigerian Micheal Eric also signed. Marei is making a comeback to Sakers, having played for them before. He was the top scorer at Al Ahly Tripoli in the Libyan D1 league and recently recorded 14.6ppg, 12.0rpg, and 4.6apg in 5 Basketball Africa League games. Marei's last stint was with Sakers.
Marei has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
He has been a member of the Egyptian international program for some years. Marei has regularly played for the Egyptian senior team since 2011 and previously for the Under 19 National Team in 2011.
He also represented Egypt at the FIBA World Cup in Philippines-Japan-Indonesia two years ago. During this event, he scored an average of 12.2 ppg and had 8 rpg.
Marei is a very experienced player. He has played professionally in France, Germany, Korea, Lithuania, and Turkey. He has played on three different continents and in five different countries during his pro career. Marei has played for teams such as Metropolitans in France, Bamberg and Bayreuth in Germany, Siauliai in Lithuania, and Pinar Karsiyaka and Galatasaray in Turkey.
Marei graduated from Minnesota State University Mankato in 2015 and it will be his 11th season as a pro player.
