Al Ittihad Alexandria (Superleague) agreed terms with 31-year old South Sudanese-Australian international center Lual Acuil (213cm-102kg-1994, college: Baylor) for the upcoming 2025-26 season. He joins another South Sudanese player Majok Deng who is already in the roster. He played last season at Manisa Basket in the Turkish BSL league. In 21 games, he had very impressive stats: 17.1ppg, 7.0rpg, and 1.0bpg. He was also named League Player of the Week (2 times). He also played 6 games in the Basketball Champions League where he recorded remarkable stats: 16.5ppg, 8.2rpg, and 1.2spg. The other team he played shortly for was Flying Leopards (CBA) in the Chinese league. Acuil has been regularly called to the South Sudanese Senior National Team since 2022.
He is quite an experienced player. Acuil has played in eight different countries on five different continents (Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, and of course North America). He has played professionally in Australia (United and Sabres), China (Monkey Kings), Hungary (Atomeromu), Israel (Hapoel Jerusalem and Galil Elion), Lebanon (Dynamo), Libya (Ahly Benghazi), and NBA Summer League (Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings).
Among many awards, he played in the final of Basketball Africa League in 2024. Acuil was voted Afrobasket.com All-Basketball Africa League Player of the Year and Afrobasket.com All-Basketball Africa League Defensive Player of the Year in 2024.
He graduated from Baylor University in 2018 and it'll be his eighth season as a pro player. Acuil played also for Neosho County Community College for 2 years.
