The defending champions of the Women's Basketball League Africa successfully opened the campaign in Dakar.

They overcame Friend's Basketball Association 65-49. The Egyptian side started with a 20-14 run and led 3 points at the halftime. A 15-7 scoring run in the final quarter guaranteed the Alexandria-based side a win.


Hala El-Shaarawy (185-F-1993, college: St.Peter's) stepped up with 19 points and Kristen Spolyar (178-G-1997, college: Butler) notched 12. Saran Berthe (170-G-2002) replied with 14 points in a loss.
