Al Ahly Cairo (Superleague) added to their roster experienced 35-year old Bosnian-Bosnia and Herzegovina international guard John Roberson (180cm-76kg-1988, college: Texas Tech) for new 2024-25 season. He played most recently at Manisa Buyuksehir Belediye Spor in Turkish BSL league. In four games he recorded 12.3ppg, 1.8rpg and 3.5apg last season. He also played 5 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he averaged 11.2ppg, 1.6rpg and 3.0apg.
The previous (2023) summer he played at Raiders in U.S. semi-pro league The Basketball Tournament.
Roberson has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2014. He has been regularly called to the Bosnia and Herzegovina Senior National Team since 2020.
Roberson is quite experienced player. Roberson's career allowed him to visit four different continents, while he played in twelve different countries. He tasted the life as a pro basketball player in Europe, Latin America, Australia and of course North America. Roberson has played previously professionally in Australia (Phoenix), France (ASVEL Lyon Villeurbanne Basket, SIG Strasbourg and Chalon/Saor), Hungary (Atomeromu), Russia (Enisey), Slovenia, Spain (Estudiantes), Sweden (Sodertalje), Switzerland (Monthey-Chablais), Turkey (Galatasaray), ABA (S.Carolina W.), Ecuador (ComuniKT) and The Basketball Tournament (Armored Athlete and Matadors).
Among many awards his team made it to the Turkish Cup Final Four in 2020. He was voted to Australiabasket.com All-Australian NBL Honorable Mention back in 2020.
Roberson is close to retirement age as a player. It's very possible he may end his playing career at Al Ahly Cairo.
He graduated from Texas Tech University in 2011 and it will be his 14th (!!!) season as a professional player.
