Canada continues winning ways with blowout win over Egypt at FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup

Canada's U19 Women's National Team stayed undefeated after a blowout 100-44 win over Egypt in the final day of group play at the FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Madrid, Spain. A slow start for both teams saw Canada lead 5-4 with five minutes left in the first quarter. However, the Canadians slowly found their rhythm when Delaney Gibb (181-SG-2005) made the team's first three with 3:37 left to put Team Canada up six points. Canada's lead only grew when Syla Swords (182-G-2006) hit back-to-back three-pointers in the final minute of action to give Canada a 20-8 lead after the first quarter. Swords got Canada off to a hot start in the second, scoring another three as Canada grew its lead to 14 points at the 8:06 mark. After Swords subbed out, it was Emma Koabel with the hot hand. She scored eight points in seven minutes of play as she helped extend the lead by 29 points after her second three of the game. Canada led 51-17 at halftime, after closing the second quarter on a 23-0 run. Canada's lead ballooned to over 40 points during the third quarter as the team shot 5/12 from beyond the arc in the third alone. T'Yana Todd (183-G-2004) massively helped the team when she checked in with 5:36 left in the third. She was helping on both the offensive and defensive end as she scored two threes and grabbed two steals. Going into the fourth, Canada was leading 77-29 and it was a team effort to come out victorious as all players scored to finish the game. Swords hit four straight threes from the end of the first quarter to early in the second to give her 14 points at halftime. She finished with a game-high 22 points on 8/11 from the field and 71 per cent from the three. With six seconds left in the game, T'Yana Todd hit a three to get 100 points on the board for Canada. The threes were falling for Team Canada during this game as the team shot 15/35 from beyond the arc.
