Al Gezira lands Janae Smith, ex Ujbuda

Janae Smith

Al Gezira Cairo (Superleague) tabbed 28-year old American 188cm forward Janae Smith, college: UAB for new season. Smith played most recently at Ujbuda in Hungarian A Division. In 22 games she averaged 14.5ppg, 8.4rpg, 1.5apg and 1.3spg last season. She helped them to win the group title. She can count that season as a very successful as was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Hungarian League Honorable Mention.

The previous (19-20) season she played at Gorizont in Belarusian Premier League where in 18 games she was the best scorer with impressive 17.3ppg and recorded 8.8rpg (leader !!!), 2.7apg and 1.4spg. Smith contributed to her team ending the regular season as at the second position in the league.

A very impressive season as she was awarded Eurobasket.com All-Belarusian League Forward of the Year, selected to 1st Team and League Player of the Week (4 times). She also played 7 games in EWBL where she had very remarkable stats: 20.4ppg, 10.9rpg and 2.4spg. Impressive indeed as was voted to Eurobasket.com All-EWBL 1st Team, All-Imports Team and also here League Player of the Week.

She is a very experienced player. Smith has played also professionally in Germany (TSV 1880 Wasserburg and Braunschweig), Greece (Panathinaikos and Niki Lefkadas), Israel (Petah Tikva), Poland (Poznan) and Slovakia (MBK).

She attended University of Alabama at Birmingham until 2015 and it will be her seventh season in pro basketball.
