Mali tops Senegal to claim African Championships U18 title and Egypt wins 3rd place

Mali defended their U18 AfroBasket title. They nipped Senegal in the championship game in Cairo .

Bourama Coulibaly (190-G-02) sank two free throws late in regulation to seal the win and the trophy for Mali. He finished with 21 points for the champions.

Senegal grabbed a 23-16 lead after the first period. But Mali unloaded 51 points in the next two quarters to secure an 11-point lead at the final intermission. Senegal denied the deficit in the fourth term and tied things up at 80. But Mali had the last word in this one as Coulibaly sealed the win.

3-4 Place

Egypt - Guinea 72-55

Egypt stepped onto the pedestal in Cairo. They toppled Guinea in the consolation final today.

Mohab Abdalatif (02) provided 29 points and 9 rebounds in the victory. Egypt jumped off to a great start. They built a 25-6 lead ten minutes into the game.

Guinea managed to pull within 8 points at the final break. But Egypt held their opponents to only 5 points in the fourth quarter and raced to the victory.
