Sporting Al Riyadi Beirut (LBL) agreed terms with experienced 41-year old Egyptian ex-international power forward Ahmad Ismail (205-111kg-76). It is actually his comeback to Beirut as he has played here before. Ismail played last season at Homenetmen (LBL). In 36 games he had 10.8ppg, 7.4rpg, 3.8apg and 1.2spg. He helped them to win the league title. Quite impressive season as he was voted Asia-Basket.com All-Lebanese League Finals MVP and named to 2nd Team.
The previous (16-17) season Ismail played at Al Riyadi where in 32 LBL games he recorded 8.8ppg, 5.9rpg, 3.8apg and 1.0spg. He contributed to his team ending the regular season as at the second position in the league and won the championship by the end if that season.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Ismail was voted Asia-Basket.com All-Lebanese League Defensive Player of the Year back in 2008 and 2012. Strangely he also played for Egyptian National Team in 2011.
Ismail played at the Arab Club Championships Winner last year.
He is quite experienced player. Ismail has played in four different countries on three different continents (Asia, Africa and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in Qatar (Qatar Sports Club), Saudi Arabia (Al Ittihad) and Egypt (Al Ettehad).
It's very possible he may end his playing career at Al Riyadi.
Ismail could be described: Ahmad started as a center ,next power forward and now a natural small forward. He has long arms, huge hands, allows him to shoot long 3s, medium distance and short shuts without hardly jumping.Inside/Outside, right hand ,left hand all the same. He is an excellent rebounder, passer, and team offensive player. He has long arms on defense. Can score at any court position. Ahmad can hit the 3-pointer without a problem. He is a good post up player witht a variety of moves around the basket. He has the ability to score against his defender from inside and outside. He has a great fade-away move and great footwork.
He has good ball handling. He will rebound at both ends of the floor. Ahmad is a real tough player who works very hard
.

BAHRAIN suffered a disheartening 64-74 loss last night to defending champions Egypt in the 23rd Arab Men's Basketball Championship in Cairo. The nationals put in a valiant effort as they tried to overcame a tough challenge from their heavily favoured rivals.
