Prime Minister Jose Maria Neves, and President Pedro Pires met with the Cape Verdean National Women's Basketball Selection before departure to Dakar.

Cape Verde's head of state and head of government intend, through these meetings, to show their moral support for the team before it leaves for Senegalese capital Dakar, where it will participate in the final phase of the African Women's Basketball Championship between September 21 and 29.

Encouraged by the performance of Cape Verde's National Men's Basketball Selection in the AfroBasket 2007 competition, in which the team won the bronze medal, Neves is now interested in supporting the “mission” the women's team has ahead of it. In the last edition of the African Women's Basketball Championship, Cape Verde came in seventh place.
