Seven Stars and ABC Cape Verde champions - Jun 22, 2009 The teams from Santiago Island, ABC and Seven Stars, became, on Sunday night, 21, national basketball champions in the U18 and senior division, respectively, during the national championship, held in the Sports Pavilion on the island of Sal. In the final game to decide the champion of Cape Verde in the U18 division, ABC won the title in the last seconds of the game, beating Academica of Mindelo, Sao Vicente Island, 69-68. It was a hard fought comeback and the team from Praia was down by 22 points to the team from Mindelo, last years champions. The tournament counted with the participation of three teams. In the first two days, Academica of Mindelo and ABC had defeated Ami Fogo, from Fogo Island. In the senior division, Seven Stars showed their supremacy and became national champion by beating the hosts, Pantera Negra, 61-49. The two teams reached the final as winners of their respective Poule, North and South, which was held in the island of Sal.
