We bring you last week's top performances from Cameroonians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


D.J. Strawberry
D.J. Strawberry
   #1. This week's number one is an experienced international shooting guard D.J. Strawberry (196-85, college: Maryland, currently plays in Turkey). He could not help Besiktas (20-10) in their last game. Despite Strawberry's very good performance Besiktas lost 75-83 on the road to the lower-ranked (#5) Banvit. He was the top scorer with 21 points. Strawberry also added made 5 passes and 3 steals in 31 minutes on the court. Strawberry has relatively good stats this year: 12.1ppg, 3.4rpg, 3.7apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 53.7%, 3FGP: 32.0% and FT: 70.8% in 30 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Cameroonian and American. Strawberry is currently a member of the Cameroonian senior national team.

Kenny Kadji

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Kenny Kadji (211-88, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Turkey). He led Tofas to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Anadolu Efes (22-8) crushing them 91-63 in the Turkish BSL last Sunday. Kadji recorded 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Tofas Bursa (24-5) is placed second in the BSL. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. This season Kadji averages: 9.6ppg, 3.3rpg, 2FGP: 52.0%, 3FGP: 32.9% and FT: 70.9%. He is in the roster of the Cameroonian senior national team.

   #3. The Cameroonian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward Gaston Essengue (203-83, college: UNLV, currently plays in Argentina). Essengue led Estudiantes Olavarria to a 2-point victory over the leader CA Platense (27-12) 77-75 in the Argentinian TNA (second division) last Monday. He was MVP of the game. Essengue recorded 25 points and grabbed 9 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!) in 27 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group South. Estudiantes Olavarria (25-14) is placed second. It was his team's tenth consecutive victory in a row. This year Essengue has relatively solid stats: 14.9ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 61.2%(229-374) and FT: 83.3% in 36 games. He played for the Cameroonian national team three years ago.

   #4. Forward Benoit Mbala (203-95, currently plays in France) contributed to a Chorale de Roanne's victory against the tenth-ranked Denain Voltaire (16-18) 68-60 in the French ProB (second division) in Friday night's game. He recorded 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in only 14 minutes. Chorale de Roanne Basket (26-8) is placed second in the ProB. Mbala has reliable stats this year: 12.0ppg and 5.7rpg in 19 games. He is also Cameroonian national team player.

   #5. International forward Narace Williams (201-97, currently plays in France) was not able to help Sluc Nancy in their game against Provence Basket (24-10) in the French ProB (second division). Williams cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. He recorded only 3 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Sluc Nancy was defeated 77-62 in Fos-sur-Mer by the higher-ranked Provence Basket (#4). It was Sluc Nancy's third consecutive loss in a row. Williams' overall stats this season are: 7.8ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.2apg and 1.1spg. He plays currently for the Cameroonian national team.

   #6. Center Junior MBida (204-90, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Entente Orleans 45 (25-9) in their game against SPO Rouen (17-17) in the French ProB (second division). MBida cannot count Monday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 13 minutes. Entente Orleans 45 was edged 77-76 in Rouen by the lower-ranked (#8) SPO Rouen. It was Entente Orleans 45's third consecutive loss in a row. It's MBida's first season with the team. This year MBida's overall stats are: 6.5ppg and 5.3rpg in 36 games. He is a former international player as he played for the Cameroonian senior team three years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Cameroonian passport but never been selected to any of Cameroonian national teams:

   #1. Experienced Danny Gibson (178-PG-84, college: S.Indiana, currently plays in France) was the major contributor in a Limoges CSP Elite's victory against the eighth-ranked JDA Dijon (18-16) 79-75 in the French ProA on Wednesday night. Gibson recorded 12 points in only a mere 14 minutes. Limoges CSP Elite (20-14) is placed fourth in the ProA. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Gibson's overall stats are: 5.9ppg, 1.7rpg and 3.1apg in 36 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Cameroonian and American.

   #2. Ralph Temgoua (194-G-87, college: St.Lawrence, currently plays in France) could not help SO Maritime Boulogne (17-17) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Temgoua's very good performance SO Maritime Boulogne was defeated 94-86 on the road by the higher-ranked UB Chartres (#5). He was the top scorer with 20 points. Temgoua also added 4 rebounds and 4 assists. This season Temgoua has relatively solid stats: 10.8ppg, 2.9rpg and 2.8apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Cameroonian and French.

   #3. Paul Biligha (200-C/F-90, agency: Players Group, currently plays in Italy) managed to help Umana Reyer Venezia to win against the fifth-ranked Dolomiti En. TR (18-12) 80-77 in the Italian Serie A on Sunday night. Biligha scored only 2 points. Umana Reyer Venezia (23-7) is placed first in the Serie A. It's Biligha's first season with the team. His overall stats this year are: 6.4ppg and 3.2rpg. Biligha has both Cameroonian and Italian nationalities.

   #4. Bertrand Nkali (206-F-92, college: Houston, currently plays in Georgia) contributed to a 3-point Mgzavrebi's victory against the closely-ranked Energy Invest (21-11) 79-76 in the Georgian Superleague in Saturday night's game. Nkali scored only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Mgzavrebi-Armia Tbilisi (13-19) is placed seventh in the Superleague. Nkali's total stats this season are: 8.7ppg, 9.3rpg and 1.9bpg.

   #5. Philippe Bayehe (204-F-99, currently plays in Italy) was not able to help Roma S.Azzurra in their game against Palestrina (23-6) in the Italian Serie B (third division). He recorded 5 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists in 17 minutes. The sixth-placed Roma S.Azzurra (19-9) lost 87-98 in a derby game to the second-ranked Palestrina in the Group D. This year Bayehe's total stats are: 9.1ppg, 9.1rpg and 1.3apg in 35 games.

MICHEL IPOUCK SO Pont de Cheruy Charvieu Chavanoz (NM1) confirmed in their roster 33-year old naturalized Cameroonian forward Michel Ipouck (200-86). He played there last season. The previous (17-18) season Ipouck played at Aubenas US (NM1) where in 22 games he had 9.5ppg, 5.7rpg, 2.8apg and 1.2spg. His team made it to the NM2 Semifinals in 2017. RALPH TEMGOUA SO Maritime Boulogne (NM1) re-signed 31-year old naturalized Cameroonian guard Ralph Temgoua (194-87, college: St.Lawrence). He has played there for the last two seasons. Among other achievements Temgoua's team made it to the NM1 Play-Offs Semifinals in 2018. He received also NABC Division III All-East Region 1st Team award back in 2012 at his college time. Condor Yaounde clinch Cup title in Yaounde - 5 days ago
Condor Yaounde - Ecole Douala 97-93 (OT) Condor Yaounde clinched Cup title in Yaounde beating Ecole Douala in overtime. Ecole Douala took an early 24-22 lead, while Condor Yaounde replied with massive 18-9 surge in the second period. Ecole Douala meanwhile needed two narrow wins in the third and fourth period to tie the game at 82-82. In overtime Condor Yaounde posted a 15-11 run to seal the Cup.   [read more]
