D.J. Strawberry selected the top Cameroonian playing abroad in last week's games - Dec 5, 2017

Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Cameroonians who are currently playing abroad.


D.J. Strawberry
D.J. Strawberry
   #1. This week's number one is an international shooting guard D.J. Strawberry (196-85, college: Maryland, currently plays in Turkey). He was the major contributor in Besiktas' victory against the tenth-ranked Banvit (4-5) 87-83 in the Turkish BSL in Thursday night's game. Strawberry scored 16 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished 7 assists in 35 minutes on the court. Besiktas Sompo Japan Istanbul (7-2) is placed second in the BSL. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Strawberry has relatively good stats this year: 14.7ppg, 3.3rpg, 5.3apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 52.9%, 3FGP: 39.5% and FT: 65.9% in nine games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Cameroonian and American. Strawberry is currently a member of the Cameroonian senior national team.

Kenny Kadji

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Kenny Kadji (211-88, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Turkey). He led Tofas to an easy victory against the 14th-ranked Gaziantep (2-7) 87-69 in the Turkish BSL on Tuesday night. Kadji had a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 10 rebounds in 23 minutes. Tofas Bursa (9-0) is placed first in the BSL. So far his team won all nine games in the Regular Season. It's Kadji's first season with the team. This year he averages: 8.9ppg, 3.8rpg, 2FGP: 49.1%, 3FGP: 25.0% in nine games. Kadji is in the roster of the Cameroonian senior national team.

   #3. The Cameroonian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard Ngijol Songolo (190-94, college: MSU Moorhead, currently plays in Serbia). He contributed to Zlatibor's victory against the closely-ranked Mladost ZE (4-6) 85-79 in the Serbian KLS on Sunday night. Songolo recorded 7 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. It was his first game for Zlatibor this season. His team is placed seventh in the KLS. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Worth to mention Songolo played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. Songolo is also a member of the Cameroonian senior national team.

   #4. Swingman Luc Mbah a Moute (200-86, college: UCLA, currently plays in NBA) contributed to a Houston Rockets' victory against the Brooklyn Nets (9-14) 117-103 in the NBA in Monday night's game. He scored 6 points in 20 minutes. The Houston Rockets have a very good 18-4 record this season. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. This year Mbah a Moute has relatively solid stats: 7.7ppg, 3.4rpg and 1.4spg in 20 games. He used to play for the Cameroonian national team back in 2015.

   #5. International shooting guard Jeremy Nzeulie (188-91, currently plays in France). He could not help Chalon/Saor (2-9) to beat Monaco (8-3). Nzeulie scored 9 points in 33 minutes. But the bottom-ranked Chalon/Saor was crushed 87-57 on the road by the second-ranked Monaco. Nzeulie has reliable stats this year: 12.8ppg, 3.3rpg and 3.1apg in 10 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Cameroonian and French. Nzeulie plays currently for the Cameroonian national team.

   #6. An experienced power forward Gaston Essengue (203-83, college: UNLV, currently plays in Argentina) was not able to help Comunicaciones (0-3) in their last game on Monday. Despite his good performance the bottom-ranked Comunicaciones was badly defeated 98-81 at home by the leading San Lorenzo. Essengue was the top scorer with 13 points. He also added 6 rebounds. Essengue's overall stats this season are: 8.7ppg and 4.3rpg. He is a former international player as he played for the Cameroonian senior team two years ago.

   #7. International forward Narace Williams (201-97, currently plays in France) helped Sluc Nancy win their game against one of league's weakest teams ALM Evreux (1-6) crushing them 75-53 in the French ProB (second division) last Friday. Williams recorded 9 points in 22 minutes. Sluc Nancy Basket Pro (5-2) is placed fifth in the ProB. This year Williams' overall stats are: 7.7ppg, 4.4rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1spg in seven games. He is also Cameroonian national team player.

   #8. Center Junior MBida (204-90, currently plays in France) helped Entente Orleans 45 win their game against the closely-ranked Caen (5-2) crushing them 102-76 in the French ProB (second division) on Friday night. MBida recorded 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Entente Orleans 45 (7-0) is placed first in the ProB. So far his team won all seven games in the Regular Season. MBida's total stats this season are: 7.7ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.1apg and 1.1spg. He used to play for the Cameroonian national team back in 2015.

   #9. International forward Arnaud-William Adala Moto (198-93, agency: Duran International, college: Towson, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Cocinas.com (3-9) in their game against Palma (5-7) in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division), despite his very good performance in Saturday night's game. Adala Moto was the second best scorer with 13 points. He also added 4 rebounds in a mere 19 minutes. But Cocinas.com was badly defeated 95-76 in S'Arenal by the higher-ranked (#12) Palma. It was Cocinas.com's third consecutive loss in a row. This year Adala Moto's total stats are: 8.2ppg, 4.8rpg, 1.2apg and 1.2spg in nine games. He is also in the roster of the Cameroonian national team.

   #10. Guard Gedeon Pitard (188-89, currently plays in France) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Chalons-Reims (4-7) in their game against Cholet Basket (5-6) in the French ProA. Pitard scored 6 points. Chalons-Reims was defeated 83-68 in Cholet by the higher-ranked Basket (#14). Pitard has averaged so far 5.9ppg, 2.2rpg, 1.6apg and 1.2spg. Despite he played previously for the French U18 national team, Pitard is also an international player who is currently on the senior Cameroonian National Team roster.

   #11. Former international forward Arsene Towa (193-81, currently plays in Finland) couldn't help Jarvenpaa in their game against Jyvaskyla BA in the Finnish 1st Division (second division), despite his very good performance on Friday night. He had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 17 rebounds in 30 minutes. But his team lost 77-90. Towa's stats this year are: 15.0ppg, 14.8rpg, 2.5apg and 2.2spg in 10 games. He used to play for the Cameroonian national team six years ago.

   #12. Former international forward Harding NaNa (203-81, college: Delaware, currently plays in Denmark) couldn't help Svendborg in their game against Bakken in the Danish Ligaen. He scored only 4 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 25 minutes. His team lost 74-86. NaNa has averaged so far 9.0ppg, 5.0rpg and 1.6apg in eight games. He used to play for the Cameroonian national team back in 2015.


The list of other players, who all have Cameroonian passport but never been selected to any of Cameroonian national teams:

   #1. Joel Embiid (213-C-94, college: Kansas, currently plays in NBA) was the major contributor in a Philadelphia 76ers' victory against the Washington Wizards (12-11) 118-113 in the NBA last Wednesday. He recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 14 rebounds. Embiid also added 4 assists and 4 blocks. The Philadelphia 76ers have 13-10 record this season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. It's Embiid's fourth year with the team. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Embiid averages: 23.0ppg, 11.3rpg, 3.1apg and 1.8bpg.

   #2. JP Tokoto (198-F-93, college: N.Carolina, currently plays in Australia) led Perth Wildcats to a victory over the league leader New Zealand Breakers (9-3) 89-73 in the Australian NBL in Friday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Tokoto scored 25 points, grabbed 5 boards, handed out 9 passes and blocked 2 shots; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Perth Wildcats (8-3) are placed second in the NBL. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This season Tokoto has very high stats. He averages: 16.4ppg, 5.2rpg, 3.3apg and 2.2spg. Tokoto has a dual citizenship: Cameroonian and American.

   #3. Paul Biligha (200-C/F-90, agency: Players Group, currently plays in Italy). He could not help Umana Venezia (7-2) to beat Scandone AV (7-2). Biligha scored only 4 points in 10 minutes. Umana Venezia lost 77-87 on the road to the second-ranked Scandone AV. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Biligha's overall stats are: 4.4ppg and 3.1rpg in nine games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Cameroonian and Italian.

   #4. Pascal Siakam (206-F-94, college: N.Mexico St., currently plays in NBA) managed to help Toronto Raptors to win against the Charlotte Hornets (9-13) 126-113 in the NBA last Wednesday. Siakam recorded only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. The Toronto Raptors have a solid 14-7 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Siakam has reliable stats this season: 7.5ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.8apg.

   #5. Philippe Bayehe (204-F-99, currently plays in Italy) was the main contributor in a Roma S.Azzurra's victory against the eighth-ranked Scauri (5-6) 65-54 in the Italian Serie B (third division) in Sunday night's game. Bayehe was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 13 rebounds. Stella Azzurra Roma (5-5) is placed seventh in Group D. Bayehe has averaged so far 9.1ppg, 10.2rpg and 1.4apg.

   #6. Johan Bitjaa Kody (207-C-93, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a 2-point L'Hospitalet's victory against the closely-ranked Myrtia 52-50 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) on Saturday night. Bitjaa Kody scored 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Bitjaa Kody has averaged so far 7.9ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.3apg.

   #7. Experienced Paul Herman Eboua (201-G-0, currently plays in Italy) is a teammate of previously mentioned Philippe Bayehe and both played together in the last Italian Serie B game. Eboua contributed to a Roma S.Azzurra's victory against the eighth-ranked Scauri 65-54. He scored only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 12 minutes. It was his first game for Roma S.Azzurra this season.

   #8. Roland Nyama (198-G/F-93, college: Stony Brook, currently plays in Germany) helped Karlsruhe PS win their game against the 11th-ranked Uni Baskets crushing them 104-82 in the German ProA (second division) last Sunday. Nyama scored 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Nyama has averaged so far 6.0ppg and 2.8rpg. He has both Cameroonian and German nationalities. Despite Nyama's Cameroonian passport, he previously played for the German U16 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Cameroonian team.   



Cameroon wins Molten Istanbul Cup 2018 - 4 days ago
Cameroon have won Molten Istanbul Cup 2018 with 6 participating teams. The African side finished the tournament undefeated with a 5-0 record on top. In the last game they beat Uganda 80-56. Cameroon opened the game with a 19-13 rally and never looked behind after. They added a 15-14 run in the second frame and posted a 19-16 rally in the third quarter. Moreover the favorites closed the game with a massive 27-13 surge to clinch the top place.   [read more]

JEREMY NZEULIE SIG Strasbourg (ProA) landed 27-year old Cameroonian international shooting guard Jeremy Nzeulie (188-91). He has played for the last two years at ES Chalon-Sur-Saone in the ProA. In 33 games he averaged 14.0ppg, 4.0rpg and 3.1apg last season. Nzeulie helped them to make it to the Supercup final.
