There was no surprise in Cape Town where 5th ranked South African Tigers (1-2) were crushed by top-ranked Egyptian Zamalek (2-0) 101-77 on Tuesday. Zamalek outrebounded Tigers 44-31 including 31 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Tigers' players. Dominican-American point guard Edgar Sosa (190-1988, college: Louisville) scored 25 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and center Anas Mahmoud (216-1995, college: Louisville) chipped in 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. The best for the losing side was American Billy Preston (209-1997, college: Kansas) with 26 points and 7 rebounds and DR Congolese-Canadian guard Myck Kabongo (190-1992, college: Texas) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending Egyptian champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with P.Luanda. Loser Tigers dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Cobra. Zamalek will meet Fukash (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Tigers will play against Cobra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
