Regular Season Round 5: Cape Town T. - P.Luanda 61-90
Date: April 10, 2022
Quite upsetting was South African Tigers' (#3) 29-point home defeat in a game versus leader Angolan P.Luanda who smashed hosts . It was a key game for the top position in the league. They also forced 21 Tigers turnovers and outrebounded them 52-40 including 19 on the offensive glass. P.Luanda looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Tigers' players. The best player for the winners was Portuguese-Angolan guard Carlos Morais (200-1985, agency: Duran International) who scored 23 points. German-Angolan center Jone Lopes (208-1990) chipped in 8 points and 15 rebounds. Central African-French forward Evans Ganapamo (201-1994, college: PVAMU) produced 17 points and 7 rebounds and DR Congolese-Canadian guard Myck Kabongo (190-1992, college: Texas) added 10 points, 8 assists and 5 steals respectively for the hosts. Four Tigers players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Defending Angolan champion (1-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Zamalek and FAP. Loser Tigers still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Cobra and Fukash. P.Luanda will meet at home Cobra (#5) in the next round. Tigers will play against the league's leader FAP and look forward to get finally their first victory.
