Regular Season Round 5: Zamalek - Cobra 80-63

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated South Sudanese Cobra (0-1) in Cairo. Visitors were defeated by Egyptian Zamalek (1-0) 80-63. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Zamalek forced 22 Cobra turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Zamalek brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Center Anas Mahmoud (216-1995, college: Louisville) nailed a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks for the winning side and Nigerian-American power forward Ikechukwu Diogu (204-1983, college: Arizona St.) accounted for 17 points and 5 rebounds. Australian-South Sudanese power forward Mayan Kiir (206-1998, college: CBC) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 22 rebounds and American guard Jared Harrington (198-1997, college: Albany St.) added 11 points respectively for Cobra in the defeat. Four Cobra players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending Egyptian champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with P.Luanda and FAP. Cobra at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Cape Town T. and Fukash. Zamalek will play against Tigers (#4) in Cape Town in the next round. Cobra will play against Fukash and hopes to get finally their first victory.
