Samkelo Cele gets MVP of the Week award for Basketball Africa League (by Hoops Agents)- May 8, 2023
The 25-year old guard had the game-high 28 points adding eight rebounds and three assists for Cape Town T. in his team's victory, helping them to beat City Oilers (#5, 1-4) 80-70. Cape Town T. maintains the 4th position in Basketball Africa League . Cape Town T. is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 2-3 record. In the team's last game Cele had a remarkable 66.7% from 2-point range. He just recently signed at Cape Town T., being already a very valuable addition to the team. Samkelo Cele averages this season 12.6ppg and 5.6rpg. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American point guard Najeal Young (198-PG-1994) of Fer.Beira. Young impressed basketball fans with 29 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Fer.Beira lost that game 75-96 to slightly lower-ranked City Oilers (#5, 1-4). Fer.Beira managed to keep the same 3rd spot in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 2-3 record. Young is one of the most experienced players at Fer.Beira and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 21.6ppg (#2). He also registered 7.2 boards per game. The third best performed player last round was American Falando Jones (193-SF-1990, agency: AG Sports Solutions) of City Oilers (#5). Jones scored 27 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Despite Jones' great performance City Oilers lost 70-80 to slightly higher-ranked Cape Town T. (#4, 2-3). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. City Oilers can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-4 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Jones has individually a great season in Basketball Africa League. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 21.6ppg (best scorer). Other top performing players last week: 4. Carlos Morais (192-SG-1985) of P.Luanda - 34 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists 5. Corey Webster (188-SG-1988) of Al Ahly - 22 points, 3 rebounds and 8 assists 6. Germaine Roebuck (196-SF-1997) of City Oilers - 23 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Omar Oraby (218-C-1991) of Al Ahly - 20 points and 8 rebounds 8. James Justice (178-SG-1989) of City Oilers - 25 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists 9. Mike Nwabuzor (188-G-1996) of SLAC - 19 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists 10. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
