Round 7: Zamalek hands first defeat to P.Luanda

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Angolan P.Luanda (3-1) in Cairo on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by Egyptian Zamalek (4-0) 85-72. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Zamalek looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Center Anas Mahmoud (216-1995, college: Louisville) fired a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Dominican-American point guard Edgar Sosa (190-1988, college: Louisville) chipped in 19 points. Guard Childe Dundao (167-1998) produced 16 points for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zamalek have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending Egyptian champion maintains first place with 4-0 record. Defending Angolan champion P.Luanda keeps the second position with one game lost. Zamalek are looking forward to face FAP (#4) in the next round. P.Luanda will play against Fukash and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Another exciting game was between fourth ranked South African Tigers and 5th ranked South Sudanese Cobra where Tigers (2-2) beat Cobra (1-3) on the road 83-79. Worth to mention a great performance of American Billy Preston (209-1997, college: Kansas) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Jamel Artis contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Australian-South Sudanese power forward Mayan Kiir (206-1998, college: CBC) answered with 22 points and 9 rebounds for Cobra. Tigers moved-up to third place. Cobra at the other side keeps the fifth position with three games lost. Tigers will play against Fukash (#6) in the next round. Cobra will play against FAP and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending Angolan champion maintains second place with 3-1 record having just seven point less than leader Zamalek. Defending Cameroonian champion FAP keeps the fourth position with two games lost. P.Luanda will meet at home Fukash (#6) in the next round. FAP will play against the league's leader Zamalek in Cairo and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 7 Zamalek defeated Fukash in Cairo 101-92.
The best stats of 7th round was 28 points and 7 assists by Mikh McKinney of Zamalek.

Cobra - Cape Town T. 79-83

Another exciting game was between fourth ranked South African Tigers and 5th ranked South Sudanese Cobra where Tigers (2-2) beat Cobra (1-3) on the road 83-79. Cobra was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American Billy Preston (209-1997, college: Kansas) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!). His fellow American import forward Jamel Artis (201-1993, college: Pittsburgh) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Australian-South Sudanese power forward Mayan Kiir (206-1998, college: CBC) answered with 22 points and 9 rebounds and American-South Sudanese guard Padiet Wang (193-1998, college: UCCS) added 14 points and 13 assists in the effort for Cobra. Four Tigers and five Cobra players scored in double figures. Tigers moved-up to third place. Cobra at the other side keeps the fifth position with three games lost. Tigers will play against Fukash (#6) in the next round. Cobra will play against FAP and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked DR Congolese Fukash (0-3) was defeated at home by leader Egyptian Zamalek (4-0) 101-92 on Saturday. Zamalek looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. It was a great evening for American-Filipino guard Mikh McKinney (184-1992, college: Sacramento St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points and 7 assists (made all of his eight free throws). Guard Eslam Mohamed (190-1989) helped adding 20 points and 4 assists. At the losing side Rolly Nganga (201-1993) responded with 28 points and 5 rebounds and forward Emmanuel Okorafor (206-2004) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Zamalek have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending Egyptian champion maintains first place with 4-0 record. Loser Fukash still closes the standings with three games lost. Zamalek will meet at home FAP (#4) in the next round. Fukash will play against Tigers and hopes to get finally their first victory.
