Group NILEZamalek - Cobra 80-63The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated South Sudanese Cobra (0-1) in Cairo. Visitors were defeated by Egyptian Zamalek (1-0) 80-63. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Zamalek forced 22 Cobra turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Zamalek brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Center Anas Mahmoud (216-1995, college: Louisville) nailed a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 6 blocks for the winning side and Nigerian-American power forward Ikechukwu Diogu (204-1983, college: Arizona St.) accounted for 17 points and 5 rebounds. Australian-South Sudanese power forward Mayan Kiir (206-1998, college: CBC) came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 22 rebounds and American guard Jared Harrington (198-1997, college: Albany St.) added 11 points respectively for Cobra in the defeat. Four Cobra players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending Egyptian champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with P.Luanda and FAP. Cobra at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Cape Town T. and Fukash. Zamalek will play against Tigers (#4) in Cape Town in the next round. Cobra will play against Fukash and hopes to get finally their first victory. FAP defeated 4th placed DR Congolese Fukash at home 77-60. It was a key game for the top position in the league. FAP forced 25 Fukash turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when FAP made 8 blocks. 27 personal fouls committed by Fukash helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Cape Verdean-Portuguese forward Joel Almeida (195-1985, college: Brockport St., agency: Interperformances) stepped up and scored 23 points and 4 steals for the winners and American forward Deshaun Morman (193-1994, college: Towson) chipped in 13 points. Forward Rolly Fula (198-1993) responded with 12 points and 9 rebounds and Chris Mpaka (-2003) scored 5 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Zamalek and P.Luanda. Fukash at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Cobra and Cape Town T.. Fukash will play next round against Cobra trying to get back on the winning streak. FAP will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Tigers in Cape Town. It was a key game for the top position in the league. They also forced 21 Tigers turnovers and outrebounded them 52-40 including 19 on the offensive glass. P.Luanda looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Tigers' players. The best player for the winners was Portuguese-Angolan guard Carlos Morais (200-1985, agency: Duran International) who scored 23 points. German-Angolan center Jone Lopes (208-1990) chipped in 8 points and 15 rebounds. Central African-French forward Evans Ganapamo (201-1994, college: PVAMU) produced 17 points and 7 rebounds and DR Congolese-Canadian guard Myck Kabongo (190-1992, college: Texas) added 10 points, 8 assists and 5 steals respectively for the hosts. Four Tigers players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Defending Angolan champion (1-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Zamalek and FAP. Loser Tigers still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Cobra and Fukash. P.Luanda will meet at home Cobra (#5) in the next round.
