Defending champion Stjarnan (Subway League) strengthened their roster with the addition of 32-year-old Angolan-Spanish ex-international 203cm forward Julio De Assis for the 2025-26 season. He is the second foreign player on the team, with Serbian Luka Gasic signing earlier. De Assis most recently played at BC Vienna in the Austrian BSL league, averaging 10.4ppg, 5.1rpg, 2.3apg, 1.7spg, and 1.0bpg in 7 games last season. During the previous (2024) summer, he played for Llaneros de Guarico (SPB) in the Venezuelan league. De Assis was a member of the Angolan Senior National Team in 2018.
He is a very experienced player. De Assis has played also in Austria, Spain (Ourense, Grupo Ureta Tizona Burgos, Pas Pielagos, Menorca and Zamora), Venezuela and Iceland (Grindavik, Breidablik and Vestri).
In 2022, his team finished as regular season runner-up in Spanish LEB Plata Group West. In 2023, he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Icelandic League Honorable Mention.
