Atletico Petroleos de Luanda (Division I) signed experienced 37-year-old Ivorian point guard Solo Diabate (183cm-76kg-1987, agency: Interperformances) for the upcoming 2024-25 season. He is the second foreign player on the roster, with Senegalese Aginaldo Neto signing earlier. This marks his return to Luanda, where he has played before. Diabate played last season with Ahly Benghazi in the Libyan D1 league, where his team won the Libyan Supercup in 2024.
During the previous (2022-23) season, he played at Atletico Petroleos de Luanda.
Diabate has attempted to make it to the NBA and participated in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
He represented Ivory Coast at the FIBA Olympic Games Qualifying Tournament in San Juan (Puerto Rico) this year. During this event he scored an average of 12 points per game and had rebounds per game.
Diabate is a very experienced player. He has played in seven different countries on three different continents (Europe, Asia, and Africa). Diabate has previously played in China (Anhui Putianxingfa), France (Gravelines Dunkerque, Chalons Reims, Chorale de Roanne, Sluc Nancy, and Provence Basket), Slovakia (Levice), Tunisia (US Monastir), North Macedonia (MZT Skopje), and Egypt (Zamalek, Al Ittihad Alexandria, and Somouha).
He has received numerous awards throughout his career, including being voted to Eurobasket.com All-Slovakian League Honorable Mention in 2018. There is a strong possibility that he will retire while playing for P.Luanda. His team achieved victory in the Libyan Supercup in 2024.
