Division I Round 21 (Regular Season): Interclube defeat ASA in the closest game of the week

Eighth-ranked ASA (8-14) gave a tough game to third ranked Interclube (17-5) in Luanda on Saturday. The visitors managed to secure only one-point victory 96-95. However their fans expected much easier game. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of ASA. Interclube looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international guard Carlos Cabral (188-1995) stepped up and scored 21 points and 6 assists for the winners and point guard Elmer Felix (180-1989) chipped in 19 points and 5 assists. Interclube's coach Apolinario Paquete used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was point guard Pascoal Konde (186-2000) with 8 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Interclube have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain third place with 17-5 record having four points less than leader P.Luanda. ASA at the other side dropped to the ninth position with 14 games lost.
Division I top team - P.Luanda (21-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed tenth ranked Benguela (4-13) 129-39. The former international guard Edmir Lucas (191-1993) nailed 25 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) for the winning side and Joao Aldemiro accounted for 16 points and 12 rebounds. Center Elvis Coche came up with 13 points for Benguela in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the twentieth consecutive win for P.Luanda. Defending champion maintains first place with 21-1 record. Benguela at the other side keeps the tenth position with 13 games lost.
Bottom-ranked Kwanza (0-21) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their 21th consecutive match to fifth ranked Vila Clotilde (14-8) 91-56 on Friday evening. The best player for the winners was Valdemar Avelino who scored 37 points (!!!) and 4 assists. Vila Clotilde's coach Edivaldo Adriano felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Agostinho Alberto who recorded 9 points and 10 rebounds. Vila Clotilde maintains fifth place with 14-8 record. Kwanza lost their twenty first game in a row. They still close the standings.

In the last two games of round 21 Interclube B destroyed Jesus Cristo on the opponent's court 87-67. Akira was outscored by CPPL in a home game 57-82.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 23 points and 10 rebounds by Antonio Ndabililwa of CPPL.



ASA - Interclube 95-96

Bottom-ranked Kwanza (0-21) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their 21th consecutive match to fifth ranked Vila Clotilde (14-8) 91-56 on Friday evening. Vila Clotilde forced 29 Kwanza turnovers and outrebounded them 52-41 including a 25-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. Vila Clotilde looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Kwanza's players. P.Luanda held Benguela to an opponent 21.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 53.3 percent accuracy of the winners and had 21 for 31 from the free-throw line, while Benguela only scored five points from the stripe. P.Luanda forced 30 Benguela turnovers and outrebounded them 65-28 including a 22-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. P.Luanda players were unselfish on offense dishing 40 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Benguela's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. There was a minor upset in Luanda where 7th ranked Jesus Cristo (8-13) was crushed by ninth ranked Interclube B (8-11) 87-67 on Saturday. Interclube B outrebounded Jesus Cristo 62-38 including a 21-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. Interclube B looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international Keven Albino (200-1998) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Joao Cardoso chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. Interclube B's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Martinho Paulo (195-1996) who recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds and guard Will Kongola added 20 points and 4 assists respectively. Interclube B moved-up to seventh place. Jesus Cristo lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the eighth position with 13 games lost.

Very predictable result in Luanda where fourth ranked CPPL (15-6) smashed 11th ranked Akira (2-16) 82-57 on Saturday. CPPL outrebounded Akira 42-29 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. CPPL looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Antonio Ndabililwa who had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds. International point guard Tarcio Domingos (194-1998) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Custodio Germano who recorded 18 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Jose Mambueni added 12 points respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for CPPL. They maintain fourth place with 15-6 record. Akira lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the eleventh position with 16 games lost.
