Division I Round 10 (Regular Season): P.Luanda B is defeated by Interclube in a derby game

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Luanda: Interclube (#3) and P.Luanda B (#8). P.Luanda B was defeated at home 77-86 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Interclube outrebounded P.Luanda B 56-39 including a 39-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. Interclube looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international center Valdelicio Joaquim (208-1990, college: Hawaii) had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Islando Manuel (192-1991) chipped in 14 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side the former international guard Jose Nseka (185-2005) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Interclube have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. P.Luanda B at the other side keeps the eighth position with six games lost. They share it with Benguela. Interclube's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Luanda ASA.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Vila Clotilde (8-3) against seventh ranked Interclube B (4-4) on Tuesday night. Host Vila Clotilde was defeated by Interclube B in Clotilde 89-78. Edgar Simao notched 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and Keven Albino supported him with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Even 15 points and 7 rebounds by the former international forward Alexandre Jungo (201-1997) did not help to save the game for Vila Clotilde. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Interclube B maintains seventh position with 4-4 record. Vila Clotilde lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the third place with three games lost. Interclube B will play against higher ranked Jesus Cristo (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Vila Clotilde will play against Kwanza in Luanda and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Division I top team - P.Luanda (9-1) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they crushed tenth ranked ASA (2-8) 93-71. Aboubacar Gakou fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. P.Luanda's coach Jose Neto felt very confident that he used entire bench saving starting five for next games. Delcio Sebastiao produced 21 points for lost side. P.Luanda have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 9-1 record. ASA lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth place with eight games lost. P.Luanda will meet Benguela (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. ASA's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Luanda to the arena Interclube.

In the last two games of round 10 Benguela won against ASA on the opponent's court 89-86. Akira was outscored by Benguela in a home game 72-91.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked ASA's (2-8) home loss to ninth ranked Benguela (3-6) 86-89 on Saturday. Strangely ASA outrebounded Benguela 46-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. Elvis Coche fired 25 points for the winners. Domingos Flora chipped in 9 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Benguela's coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Pascoal Konde (186-2000) produced 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Antonio Dinis (200-2000) added 23 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) respectively for lost side. Custodio Germano produced 18 points and 4 assists and Gomes Lifeta added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Benguela have a solid three-game winning streak.
