Division I Round 9 (Regular Season): P.Luanda keep a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked P.Luanda as it allowed them to take a leadership position. P.Luanda smashed bottom-ranked Kwanza at home 151-61. P.Luanda dominated down low during the game scoring 148 of its points in the paint compared to Kwanza's 58 and had 40 for 76 from the free-throw line, while Kwanza only scored ten points from the stripe. P.Luanda forced 47 Kwanza turnovers and outrebounded them 140-53 including a 48-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. P.Luanda looked well-organized offensively handing out 88 assists comparing to just 24 passes made by Kwanza's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when P.Luanda made 8 blocks. It was a good game for international forward Aboubacar Gakou (201-1997) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 20 rebounds. The former international point guard Gerson Domingos (174-1996) contributed with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 15 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Manuel Bimbe answered with 16 points for Kwanza. Kwanza's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. P.Luanda (8-1) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Kwanza at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. Kwanza will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. P.Luanda will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked ASA. It will be extra interesting game as ASA is their local rival from Luanda.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Luanda: P.Luanda (#2) and Interclube B (#7). Interclube B was defeated at home 74-84 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. The former international point guard Joaquim Pedro (176-1995) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and Gerson Domingos chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was Edivaldo Simao with 18 points and 5 rebounds. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for P.Luanda. Defending champion (8-1) keeps a position of league leader. Interclube B at the other side keeps the seventh place with four games lost. P.Luanda's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Luanda to the arena ASA.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Vila Clotilde (8-3) against sixth ranked CPPL (5-3) on Friday night. Visiting Vila Clotilde was crushed by CPPL in 107-62. Gelson Calunga nailed 21 points and 7 assists for the winning side. Alexandre Jungo came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds for Vila Clotilde in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. CPPL moved-up to fifth place. Vila Clotilde lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the third position with three games lost. CPPL will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Vila Clotilde will play against Interclube B and hope to secure a win.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 9: Vila Clotilde smashed Benguela on the road 120-73. Winless Kwanza lost to Benguela on its own court 100-103. P.Luanda B managed to outperform ASA in a road game 96-81. 1 De Agosto managed to beat Jesus Cristo at home 97-79. Akira was crushed by Interclube on the opponent's court 111-53.
The most impressive performance of 9th round was 19 points and 15 rebounds by Valdelicio Joaquim of Interclube.



Benguela - Vila Clotilde 73-120

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Vila Clotilde (8-3) crushed on the road 9th ranked Benguela (3-6) 120-73 on Wednesday. Vila Clotilde shot 27 for 37 from the free-throw line, while Benguela only scored nine points from the stripe. Vila Clotilde forced 21 Benguela turnovers and outrebounded them 56-35 including a 36-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Vila Clotilde looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The former international forward Alexandre Jungo (201-1997) nailed 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Andre Lama accounted for 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Elvis Coche came up with 20 points and 4 steals and Josue Bartolomeu added 10 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Benguela in the defeat. Five Vila Clotilde and four Benguela players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Despite that victory Vila Clotilde went down to third position due to points difference. Loser Benguela dropped to the eighth place with six games lost. They share the position with P.Luanda B.
