We bring you last week's top performances from Angolans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.


Antonio Monteiro

   #1. This week's number one is former international power forward Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal). He was the major contributor in Sporting's victory against the eighth-ranked Ovarense (3-6) crushing them 94-63 in the Portuguese LPB in Friday night's game. Monteiro scored 22 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 27 minutes on the court. Sporting Clube de Portugal Lisboa (9-1) is placed second in the LPB. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. Monteiro has relatively good stats this year: 10.7ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.1apg, 3FGP: 40.7% and FT: 63.0% in 10 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Portuguese. Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he played also for the Angolan national team in 2014.

Second place goes to an international forward Silvio de Sousa (206-98, currently plays college basketball in the States). de Sousa led Chattanooga to an easy victory against the Tennessee Wesleyan University (3-6) crushing them 104-55 in the NCAA last Sunday. He recorded 20 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has 9-3 overall record this season. It's de Sousa's first year with the team. This year de Sousa has relatively solid stats: 13.0ppg, 6.6rpg, 1.3bpg, 2FGP: 63.0%(63-100) and FT: 66.7%. He is in the roster of the Angolan senior national team.

   #3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Rifen Miguel (203-99, currently studies in the States). Miguel led Troy to an easy victory against the Arkansas Baptist College (3-6) crushing them 84-64 in the NCAA on Saturday night. He had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds in 22 minutes. The Troy University has 8-4 overall record this season. It's Miguel's first year with the team. This year Miguel's overall stats are: 4.0ppg, 2.5rpg, 2FGP: 69.7%(23-33) in 12 games. He is also a member of the Angolan senior national team.

   #4. Guard Jaques Conceicao (190-89, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to Lusitania's victory against the closely-ranked Illiabum (3-8) 80-70 in the Portuguese LPB in Saturday night's game. Conceicao scored 7 points. S.C. Lusitania EXPERT (7-4) is placed sixth in the LPB. This season Conceicao averages: 4.6ppg, 2.3rpg and 1.2apg. He is also Angolan national team player.

An experienced international guard Selton Miguel (193-0, is currently at the American university) contributed to an Kansas St.'s victory against the University of Nebraska (0-2) 67-58 in the NCAA on Sunday night. Miguel scored 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The University of Kansas State has 10-2 overall record this season. Miguel's total stats this year are: 8.3ppg, 5.6rpg and 2.6apg. He plays currently for the Angolan national team.

   #6. Guard Gil Silva (185-0, currently plays in Portugal). He could not help Academia (1-8) to beat Barreirense (8-1). Silva cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He recorded only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The eighth-placed Academia (1-8) was crushed 76-55 on the road by the second-ranked Barreirense in the South group. It was Academia's third consecutive loss in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Silva's first season with the team. Silva's total stats this year are: 2.7ppg and 2.9rpg. He is a former U18 international player as he played for the Angolan team three years ago.

   #7. International guard Joshua Kashila (190, currently plays in NAIA) was not able to help the SW Assemblies of God University (2-0) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance the SW Assemblies of God University was defeated 85-78 in Shreveport by the Louisiana State University at. Kashila scored 18 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 4 assists. Kashila is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fifth year in SW Assemblies of God University's roster. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Kashila averages: 17.3ppg, 5.7rpg, 3.8apg and 1.3spg. He is also Angolan national team player.

   #8. Forward Cristiano Gomes (203-98, currently plays in NCAA2) was not able to secure a victory for the Paine College in their last game. Despite Gomes' good performance his team was crushed 84-63 in a derby game by the Augusta University. He recorded 12 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 22 minutes. This year Gomes' total stats are: 9.0ppg and 6.5rpg in two games. He used to play for the Angolan U20 national team back in 2016.

   #1. Experienced Benedito Suca (196-F-84, currently plays in Portugal) could not help Academia (1-8) in their last game. Despite Suca's very good performance the eighth-placed Academia (1-8) was crushed 76-55 on the road by the second-ranked Barreirense in the South group. He was the top scorer with 24 points. Suca also added 6 rebounds in 33 minutes. It was Academia's third consecutive loss in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Suca is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his 11th year in Academia's roster. This season his total stats are: 9.4ppg and 5.6rpg in five games he played so far.

   #2. Jose Tonet (C-99, currently plays in Portugal) was not able to help Sampaense in their game against Maia Basket (3-7) in the Portuguese Proliga (second division). Tonet recorded 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 20 minutes. The fifth-placed Sampaense (3-6) was crushed 85-62 in Maia by the lower-ranked (#6) Basket in the North group. It was Sampaense's third consecutive loss in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This year Tonet's total stats are: 6.3ppg and 4.6rpg in nine games.

   #3. Fabio Galiano (202-PF-97, currently plays in Germany) was not able to secure a victory for Neustadt TSV (7-7) in their game against Stade (9-5) in the German Regionalliga (fourth division). Galiano scored 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 27 minutes. Neustadt TSV (#6) lost 65-80 at home to the higher-ranked (#4) Stade in the North group. This year Galiano's total stats are: 5.4ppg and 4.6rpg in 13 games.
