We bring you last week's top performances from Angolans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an international center
Yanick Moreira (211-91, agency:
BeoBasket, college:
SMU, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup). He could not help one of league's weakest teams
Peristeri (1-2) in their last game. Despite Moreira's good performance Peristeri lost
66-76 at home to the second-ranked Crailsheim Merlins.
He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds in 25 minutes on the court.
There are only three games left until the end of the FIBA Europe Cup Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
This year Moreira averages: 7.0ppg, 5.0rpg, 2.3apg, 2FGP: 42.9% and FT: 23.1% in three games he played so far.
He is currently a member of the Angolan senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to former international power forward
Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in FIBA Europe Cup). Monteiro led his Portuguese team
Sporting to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Ionikos (1-2) crushing them
87-54 in the FIBA Europe Cup last Tuesday.
He scored 13 points.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Sporting Clube de Portugal Lisboa (2-1) is placed second in the FIBA Europe Cup.
There are only three games left until the end of the FIBA Europe Cup Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial.
This season Monteiro averages only 6.5ppg.
He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Portuguese.
Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he played also for the Angolan national team in 2014.
#3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward
Julio De Assis (203-92, agency:
Duran International, currently plays in Iceland). De Assis was not able to help
Vestri (1-3) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Vestri lost
67-74 on the road to the higher-ranked (#8) Valur.
De Assis had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 11 rebounds in 35 minutes.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
It's De Assis' first year with the team.
He has relatively good stats this season: 14.5ppg, 9.5rpg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 44.1% and FT: 66.7% in four games.
De Assis is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Spanish.
He played for the Angolan national team three years ago.
#4. Guard
Jaques Conceicao (190-89, currently plays in Portugal) managed to help S.C. Lusitania EXPERT to win against the closely-ranked Oliveirense (3-2)
81-74 in the Portuguese LPB in Thursday night's game.
Conceicao scored only 2 points.
S.C. Lusitania EXPERT (5-1) is placed third in the LPB.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
Conceicao's overall stats this year are: 2.8ppg and 2.7rpg.
He is also Angolan national team player.
#5. An experienced former U18 international guard
Gil Silva (185-0, currently plays in Portugal) was not able to secure a victory for
Academia (0-4) in their game against Barreirense (3-0) in the Portuguese Proliga (second division). He did not beat the league record on Sunday evening.
Silva scored only 2 points.
The eighth-placed Academia (0-4) was crushed
92-60 on their home court in Lisbon by the leading Barreirense in the South group.
So far Academia lost all four games in the Regular Season.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Silva's overall stats this season are: 1.0ppg and 1.5rpg.
He has both Angolan and Portuguese nationalities.
Silva used to play for the Angolan U18 national team
three years ago.
The list of other players, who all have Angolan passport but never been selected to any of Angolan national teams: #1. Jose Tonet (C-99, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to
Sampaense's victory against the second-ranked Sangalhos (3-1)
81-77 in the Portuguese Proliga (second division) last Saturday.
Tonet recorded 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 20 minutes.
in group North. Sampaense Basket (2-2) is placed sixth.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
This year Tonet's overall stats are: 6.8ppg and 5.3rpg in four games he played so far.
#2. Experienced
Benedito Suca (196-F-84, currently plays in Portugal). He could not help
Academia (0-4) to beat NB Queluz (2-2). Suca cannot count it as his best performance.
He recorded only 2 points in 10 minutes. It was his first game for Academia this season.
Academia (#8) lost
66-79 on the road to the higher-ranked (#4) NB Queluz in the South group.
So far Academia lost all four games in the Regular Season.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Suca has been at the team for eleven years.
#3. Fabio Galiano (202-PF-97, currently plays in Germany) was not able to help
Neustadt TSV in their game against Bramsche (3-4) in the German Regionalliga (fourth division).
Galiano recorded only 4 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Neustadt TSV (#10) was defeated
87-75 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Bramsche (#8) in the North group.
It was Neustadt TSV's third consecutive loss in a row.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Galiano's overall stats this season are: 6.2ppg and 5.4rpg.
#4. Cesar Carapinha (183-G-87, currently plays in Finland) was not able to secure a victory for
Pantterit in their game against Pyrinto Ak.B (1-2) in the Finnish 1st Division (second division).
He recorded 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 30 minutes.
His team was badly defeated
82-62 at home by the lower-ranked (#3) Pyrinto Ak.B in the Division B-A.
It's Carapinha's first season with the team.
This year Carapinha's overall stats are: 3.0ppg, 3.7rpg, 2.7apg and 3.0spg in three games.
