Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Angolans who are currently playing abroad.
#1. This week's number one is former international power forward
Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal). He was the major contributor in
Sporting's victory against one of league's weakest teams Povoa (0-4)
71-68 in the Portuguese LPB in Saturday night's game.
Monteiro recorded 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds (made all of his five free throws) in 25 minutes on the court.
Sporting Clube de Portugal Lisboa (4-1) is placed second in the LPB.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
It's Monteiro's first year with the team.
This season he averages: 7.8ppg, 5.4rpg, 3FGP: 34.8% and FT: 71.4% in five games he played so far.
Monteiro has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Portuguese.
Despite he played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, Monteiro played also for the Angolan national team in 2014.
#2. Second place goes to an international center
Yanick Moreira (211-91, agency:
BeoBasket, college:
SMU, currently plays in Greece). He could not help
Peristeri (4-1) to beat Panathinaikos (2-1).
Moreira recorded 6 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.
The league leader Peristeri was defeated
77-62 in a derby game by the lower-ranked Panathinaikos (#5).
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
It's Moreira's first year with the team.
His overall stats this season are: 8.3ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 40.9% and FT: 87.5%.
Moreira is in the roster of the Angolan senior national team.
#3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard
Jaques Conceicao (190-89, currently plays in Portugal). He was not able to help
Lusitania in their game against Imortal (3-1) in the Portuguese LPB.
Conceicao recorded only 4 points in 15 minutes.
Lusitania was edged
87-85 on the road by the higher-ranked (#4) Imortal.
They ended the series of three consecutive victories.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
It's Conceicao's first year with the team.
This season his overall stats are: 3.5ppg, 2.5rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 42.9%, 3FGP: 16.7% and FT: 83.3% in four games.
Ex-Desportivo 1. De Agosto Luanda player is also a member of the Angolan senior national team.
#4. Forward
Julio De Assis (203-92, agency:
Duran International, currently plays in Iceland) led
Vestri to a victory against the league outsider Thor AK (0-3)
88-77 in the Icelandic Dominos League in Friday night's game.
De Assis recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 5 assists.
Vestri (1-2) is placed ninth in the Dominos League.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
De Assis has relatively good stats this season: 14.0ppg, 9.0rpg and 2.7apg.
He is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Spanish.
De Assis used to play for the Angolan national team
back in 2018.
#5. An experienced former U18 international guard
Gil Silva (185-0, currently plays in Portugal) was not able to secure a victory for
Academia (0-3) in their game against Barreirense (3-0) in the Portuguese Proliga (second division). He cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones.
Silva scored only 2 points.
The eighth-placed Academia (0-3) was crushed
92-60 at home by the leading Barreirense in the South group.
So far Academia lost all three games in the Regular Season.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Silva's total stats this season are: 1.3ppg and 1.7rpg.
He has both Angolan and Portuguese nationalities.
Silva used to play for the Angolan U18 national team
three years ago.
The list of other players, who all have Angolan passport but never been selected to any of Angolan national teams: #1. Jose Tonet (C-99, currently plays in Portugal). He could not help
Sampaense (1-2) to beat Galitos-Barreiro (2-0).
Tonet scored 7 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 25 minutes.
The seventh-placed Sampaense (1-2) was crushed
111-69 at home by the second-ranked Galitos-Barreiro in the North group.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
This year Tonet's total stats are: 7.0ppg and 5.3rpg in three games he played so far.
#2. Experienced
Silmy Caputo (184-G-2, currently plays in Switzerland) was not able to help
Neuchatel (1-2) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his good performance Neuchatel was badly defeated
84-66 on the road by the leading Massagno.
Caputo recorded 10 points.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
Caputo's total stats this season are: 3.3ppg and 1.3spg.
#3. Fabio Galiano (202-PF-97, currently plays in Germany) was not able to secure a victory for
Neustadt TSV (2-3) in their game against Westerstede (5-1) in the German Regionalliga (fourth division).
He scored 6 points, had 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 24 minutes.
The ninth-placed Neustadt TSV (2-3) lost
69-79 on their home court in Neustadt to the second-ranked Westerstede in the North group.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
This year Galiano's total stats are: 6.8ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.3apg in four games.
