We bring you last week's top performances from Angolans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an international center
Yanick Moreira (211-91, agency:
BeoBasket, college:
SMU, currently plays in Greece). He contributed to a 3-point
Peristeri's victory against the league outsider Iraklis (0-2)
79-76 in the Greek A1 in Sunday night's game.
Moreira scored 10 points and grabbed 7 rebounds (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line) in 22 minutes on the court.
Peristeri GS Athens (4-1) is placed first in the A1.
It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
It's Moreira's first year with the team.
This season he averages: 9.5ppg, 5.0rpg, 2FGP: 46.2% and FT: 87.5% in two games he played so far.
Moreira is currently a member of the Angolan senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to former international power forward
Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal). He led
Sporting to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked Academica (0-3) crushing them
98-59 in the Portuguese LPB last Saturday.
Monteiro scored 11 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists.
Sporting Clube de Portugal Lisboa (3-1) is placed third in the LPB.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
Monteiro's overall stats this year are: 6.3ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 55.6%, 3FGP: 33.3%.
He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Portuguese.
Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he played also for the Angolan national team in 2014.
#3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard
Jaques Conceicao (190-89, currently plays in Portugal). Conceicao contributed to
Lusitania's victory against the eighth-ranked Vitoria SC (1-2)
80-71 in the Portuguese LPB on Saturday night.
He scored 6 points in 20 minutes.
S.C. Lusitania EXPERT (3-0) is placed second in the LPB.
So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
This year Conceicao's overall stats are: 3.3ppg, 2.7rpg, 1.7apg, 1.3spg in three games.
Ex-Desportivo 1. De Agosto Luanda player is also a member of the Angolan senior national team.
#4. Forward
Julio De Assis (203-92, agency:
Duran International, currently plays in Iceland) could not help
Vestri (0-2) in their last game on Thursday. Despite his good performance the bottom-ranked Vestri was crushed
100-77 on the road by the higher-ranked Thor Thorl (#7).
De Assis was the second best scorer with 14 points. He also added 9 rebounds.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
It's De Assis' first year with the team.
De Assis has relatively good stats this season: 11.5ppg, 8.5rpg and 1.5apg.
He is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Spanish.
De Assis used to play for the Angolan national team
back in 2018.
#5. An experienced former U18 international guard
Gil Silva (185-0, currently plays in Portugal) was not able to help
Academia in their game against Belenenses (2-0) in the Portuguese Proliga (second division). He did not beat the league record on Saturday evening.
Silva scored only 2 points.
The sixth-placed Academia (0-2) was defeated
79-75 in a derby game by the second-ranked Belenenses in the South group.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
It's Silva's first year with the team.
His total stats this season are: 1.0ppg and 1.5rpg.
Silva has both Angolan and Portuguese nationalities.
He used to play for the Angolan U18 national team
three years ago.
The list of other players, who all have Angolan passport but never been selected to any of Angolan national teams: #1. Jose Tonet (C-99, currently plays in Portugal). He could not help
Sampaense (1-1) to beat Galomar (1-1).
Tonet scored 7 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 24 minutes.
The sixth-placed Sampaense (1-1) was crushed
91-59 on the road by the higher-ranked (#3) Galomar in the North group.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
This year Tonet's total stats are: 7.0ppg and 3.5rpg in two games he played so far.
#2. Fabio Galiano (202-PF-97, currently plays in Germany) was not able to help
Neustadt TSV in their game against Cuxhaven (3-2) in the German Regionalliga (fourth division).
Galiano scored only 4 points and added 3 assists in 19 minutes.
Neustadt TSV (#8) lost
70-75 on the opponent's court to the higher-ranked (#6) Cuxhaven in the North group.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
This year Galiano's total stats are: 7.0ppg and 4.0rpg in three games.
#3. Experienced
Cesar Carapinha (183-G-87, currently plays in Finland) managed to help Pantterit Helsinki to win against the sixth-ranked Raholan Pyrkiva Tampere (0-2)
81-65 in the Finnish 1st Division (second division) last Sunday.
He recorded only 4 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals.
in Division B-A. Pantterit Helsinkiis placed .
Carapinha's total stats this season are: 2.0ppg, 3.5rpg, 3.0apg and 3.5spg.
