Here is the weekly review of the top performing Angolan players, who play currently abroad.
#1. This week's number one is former international power forward
Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal). He contributed to an easy victory against the 11th-ranked Esgueira (5-13) crushing them
76-54 in the Portuguese LPB in Saturday night's game.
Monteiro recorded 9 points in 21 minutes on the court.
Imortal Luzigas Albufeira (3-1) is placed second in the LPB.
Monteiro has relatively good stats this year: 10.6ppg, 5.9rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 59.3%(48-81), 3FGP: 29.2% and FT: 60.9% in 17 games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Portuguese.
Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he played also for the Angolan national team in 2014.
#2. Second place goes to former international forward
Julio De Assis (203-92, currently plays in Spain). De Assis could not help
Menorca (13-4) to beat La Roda (5-11).
He scored 7 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
The second-placed Menorca (13-4) was defeated
73-66 at home by the much lower-ranked La Roda (#13) in the East group.
They ended the series of three consecutive victories.
It's De Assis' first season with the team.
This year De Assis averages: 8.0ppg, 3.5rpg, 2FGP: 66.7%(44-66), 3FGP: 26.5%.
He is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Spanish.
De Assis played for the Angolan national team in 2018.
#3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was former international center
Bruno Fernando (208-98, college:
Maryland, currently plays in NBA). He was not able to help the
Atlanta Hawks in their game against the Boston Celtics (15-15) in the NBA. It was not Fernando's best game last Friday.
He scored only 2 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 11 minutes.
The Atlanta Hawks (13-17) lost
109-121 on the road to the Celtics.
This year Fernando's overall stats are: 1.8ppg, 3.5rpg, 2FGP: 47.6% in 16 games.
He played for the Angolan national team five years ago.
#4. An experienced guard
Selton Miguel (193-0, currently plays college basketball in the States) contributed to an
Kansas St.'s victory against the Texas Christian University (4-7)
62-54 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game.
Miguel scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
The University of Kansas State has not so impressive 2-13 conference record this season.
There are only two games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
Miguel's total stats this season are: 7.3ppg, 2.8rpg and 2.1apg.
He used to play for the Angolan U19 national team
back in 2017.
#5. Former U20 international forward
Valdir Manuel (208-99, currently studies in the States) was not able to secure a victory for the
N.Mexico (1-13) in their game against the University of Wyoming (6-8) in the NCAA.
Manuel scored 9 points and blocked 3 shots in 19 minutes.
But the N.Mexico lost
67-79 in Laramie to the University of Wyoming.
There are only three games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial.
This year Manuel's total stats are: 7.8ppg, 4.1rpg and 1.4bpg in 17 games.
He used to play for the Angolan U20 national team
five years ago.
#6. Guard
Eric Amandio (190-98, currently plays in NAIA) couldn't help the
Oklahoma City University (2-6) in their last game. Despite Amandio's very good performance his team was crushed
98-74 in Siloam Springs by the John Brown University.
He scored 19 points and had 3 steals in 22 minutes.
The Regular Season already ended in the NAIA.
Amandio has averaged so far 6.8ppg, 4.2rpg, 2.5apg and 1.2spg in six games.
He is a former U20 international player as he played for the Angolan team five years ago.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Angolan passport: #1. Experienced
Eduardo Andre (208-C-1, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help University of Nebraska to win against the The Pennsylvania State University (4-11)
62-61 in the NCAA on Sunday night.
Andre scored only 2 points.
The University of Nebraska has not so impressive 1-12 conference record this season.
There are only three games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
Andre has averaged so far 1.8ppg and 1.8rpg.
He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and British.
