We bring you last week's top performances from Angolans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is former international power forward
Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal). He led
Imortal to a victory against the league leader Sporting (16-1)
102-98 in the Portuguese LPB in Tuesday night's game.
Monteiro had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 10 rebounds in 35 minutes on the court.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Imortal Luzigas Albufeira (3-1) is placed second in the LPB.
Monteiro has relatively good stats this year: 10.8ppg, 6.1rpg, 1.4apg, 2FGP: 58.2%(46-79), 3FGP: 29.5% and FT: 59.1% in 16 games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Portuguese.
Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he played also for the Angolan national team in 2014.
#2. Second place goes to former international forward
Julio De Assis (203-92, currently plays in Spain). De Assis was the major contributor in
Menorca's victory against the tenth-ranked Villarrobledo (5-9)
79-61 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) last Wednesday.
He scored 17 points.
Hestia Menorca (13-4) is placed second in East group.
It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row.
This season De Assis averages: 8.0ppg, 3.5rpg, 2FGP: 66.7%(44-66), 3FGP: 26.5%.
He is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Spanish.
De Assis played for the Angolan national team in 2018.
#3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was former international center
Bruno Fernando (208-98, college:
Maryland, currently plays in NBA). He could not help the
Atlanta Hawks (11-15) to beat the San Antonio Spurs (16-11).
Fernando recorded 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in only 14 minutes.
The Atlanta Hawks (11-15) lost
114-125 on the road to the Spurs.
It was Hawks' third consecutive loss in a row.
This year Fernando's overall stats are: 1.9ppg, 3.6rpg, 2FGP: 47.4% in 14 games.
He played for the Angolan national team five years ago.
#4. An experienced guard
Selton Miguel (193-0, currently plays college basketball in the States) was not able to help the
Kansas St. in their game against the The University of Texas (7-4) in the NCAA.
Miguel recorded 6 points and added 5 passes.
The Kansas St. was edged
80-77 in Austin by the The University of Texas.
There are only four games left until the end of the NCAA Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
It's Miguel's first season with the team.
His total stats this year are: 7.5ppg, 2.8rpg and 2.1apg.
Miguel used to play for the Angolan U19 national team
back in 2017.
#5. Former U20 international guard
Eric Amandio (190-98, currently plays in NAIA) managed to help Oklahoma City University to win against the Southwestern Christian University (4-8)
92-79 in the NAIA on Saturday night.
Amandio recorded 5 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
The Oklahoma City University has not so impressive 2-5 record this season.
His team will play only one more game in the NAIA Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial.
Amandio's total stats this season are: 7.2ppg, 3.6rpg and 2.4apg.
He used to play for the Angolan U20 national team
five years ago.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Angolan passport: #1. Experienced
Eduardo Andre (208-C-1, currently plays college basketball in the States) managed to help University of Nebraska in a 1-point victory against the The Pennsylvania State University (4-9)
62-61 in the NCAA last Sunday.
He scored only 2 points in 7 minutes on the court.
The University of Nebraska has not so impressive 1-9 conference record this season.
This year Andre's total stats are: 2.1ppg and 1.5rpg in eight games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and British.
