Here is the weekly review of the top performing Angolan players, who play currently abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an international center
Yanick Moreira (211-91, agency:
BeoBasket, college:
SMU, currently plays in Greece). He could not help
AEK (8-1) in their last game. Despite Moreira's very good performance the league leader AEK lost
70-78 on the road to the lower-ranked (#3) Lavrio.
He was the top scorer with 30 points. Moreira also added 8 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 31 minutes on the court.
Moreira has relatively good stats this year: 11.7ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.8bpg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 58.7%(44-75) and FT: 85.0% in nine games he played so far.
He is currently a member of the Angolan senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to former international center
Bruno Fernando (208-98, college:
Maryland, currently plays in NBA). Fernando managed to help Atlanta Hawks to win against the Detroit Pistons (1-5)
128-120 in the NBA last Monday.
He scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds.
The Atlanta Hawks have a solid 4-2 record this season.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
This year Fernando averages: 1.7ppg, 5.2rpg and FT: 66.7%.
He played for the Angolan national team in 2016.
#3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward
Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal). Monteiro contributed to
Imortal's victory against one of league's weakest teams Barreirense (1-11)
96-86 in the Portuguese LPB on Sunday night.
He scored 6 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 21 minutes.
Imortal Luzigas Albufeira (4-2) is placed third in the LPB.
This year Monteiro has relatively solid stats: 11.5ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.5apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 59.6%(34-57), 3FGP: 28.6% and FT: 60.5% in 11 games.
He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Portuguese.
Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he played also for the Angolan national team in 2014.
#4. Forward
Julio De Assis (203-92, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked CBA Gran Canaria 2nd team (4-4) crushing them
84-55 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) in Sunday night's game.
De Assis scored 8 points.
Hestia Menorca (10-2) is placed third in East group.
It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row.
It's De Assis' first season with the team.
His overall stats this year are: 7.2ppg and 3.3rpg.
De Assis is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Spanish.
He used to play for the Angolan national team
back in 2018.
#5. An experienced former U19 international guard
Selton Miguel (193-0, currently plays college basketball in the States) led
Kansas St. to a 2-point victory against the University of Nebraska at Omaha (0-2)
60-58 in the NCAA last Tuesday.
Miguel recorded 11 points in 36 minutes.
The University of Kansas State has 1-2 conference record this season.
This year Miguel's overall stats are: 7.7ppg, 1.8rpg and 1.4apg in 11 games.
He used to play for the Angolan U19 national team
four years ago.
#6. Forward
Valdir Manuel (208-99, currently studies in the States) was not able to help the
N.Mexico in their game against the The University of Nevada (3-1) in the NCAA.
Manuel scored 5 points.
The N.Mexico was defeated
84-74 in Reno by the The University of Nevada.
So far N.Mexico lost all four games in the conference But the season just started, so everything may happen.
Manuel's total stats this year are: 6.7ppg and 3.6rpg.
He is a former U20 international player as he played for the Angolan team five years ago.
One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Angolan passport: #1. Experienced
Eduardo Andre (208-C-1, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the
Nebraska (0-4) to beat the Ohio State University (2-3). Andre cannot count it as his best performance.
He scored only 3 points in 7 minutes on the court.
The Nebraska was crushed
90-54 at home by the Ohio State University.
So far Nebraska lost all four games in the conference This year Andre's total stats are: 3.0ppg and 1.6rpg in five games he played so far.
He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and British.
