Here is the weekly review of the top performing Angolan players, who play currently abroad.


Yanick Moreira

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Yanick Moreira (211-91, agency: BeoBasket, college: SMU, currently plays in Greece). He contributed to AEK's victory against the closely-ranked Iraklis (4-3) 79-72 in the Greek A1 in Saturday night's game. Moreira recorded 6 points in 16 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. AEK Athens (6-0) is placed first in the A1. So far his team won all six games in the Regular Season. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. This year Moreira averages: 9.5ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.5bpg, 2FGP: 59.5%(22-37) and FT: 86.7% in six games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Angolan senior national team.

Antonio Monteiro

   #2. Second place goes to former international power forward Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal). Monteiro led Imortal to a victory over the eighth-ranked Academica (4-6) crushing them 95-69 in the Portuguese LPB last Sunday. He was MVP of the game. Monteiro recorded 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Imortal Luzigas Albufeira (4-2) is placed third in the LPB. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Monteiro has relatively good stats this year: 10.8ppg, 4.9rpg, 1.6apg, 1.1spg, 3FGP: 20.8% and FT: 63.0%. He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Portuguese. Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he played also for the Angolan national team in 2014.

   #3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former U19 international guard Selton Miguel (193-0, currently plays college basketball in the States). Miguel contributed to a 1-point Kansas St.'s victory against the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee 76-75 in the NCAA on Friday night. He scored 17 points in 34 minutes. The University of Kansas State has 4-2 overall record this season. This year Miguel's overall stats are: 7.5ppg, 2.0rpg, 2FGP: 56.3%(9-16), 3FGP: 26.3% and FT: 70.6% in six games. He played for the Angolan U19 national team three years ago.

   #4. Forward Julio De Assis (203-92, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Menorca's victory against the fourth-ranked Albacete (4-1) 71-58 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) in Saturday night's game. De Assis scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Hestia Menorca (7-2) is placed third in East group. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. De Assis' total stats this season are: 7.1ppg and 3.3rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Spanish. De Assis used to play for the Angolan national team back in 2018.

   #5. Former U20 international forward Valdir Manuel (208-99, currently studies in the States) contributed to N.Mexico's victory against the Rice University 72-61 in the NCAA last Sunday. He recorded 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in only 13 minutes. It was his first game for N.Mexico this season. His team has 2-0 overall record this season. Manuel used to play for the Angolan U20 national team four years ago.

   #6. Forward Rifen Miguel (203-99, is currently at the American university) contributed to an Ohio's surprising victory against the Cleveland State University crushing them 101-46 in the NCAA on Sunday night. He scored 10 points. The Ohio University has 2-1 overall record this season. It's Miguel's first year with the team. Miguel's total stats this year are: 4.0ppg and 2.8rpg. He is a former U19 international player as he played for the Angolan team three years ago.

   #7. International guard Jaques Conceicao (190-89, agency: Promo Sport ID, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to Galitos-Barreiro's victory against one of league's weakest teams Barreirense (1-9) 85-72 in a derby game in the Portuguese LPB in Friday night's game. Conceicao scored 9 points and added 4 assists in 24 minutes. Galitos-Barreiro (1-7) is placed 12th in the LPB. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. This year Conceicao's total stats are: 5.8ppg, 3.1rpg and 3.3apg in eight games. He is also Angolan national team player.


One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Angolan passport:

   #1. Jose Tonet (C-99, currently plays in Portugal). Tonet could not help Sampaense (3-3) to beat Povoa (5-0). He scored only 4 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. The third-placed Sampaense (3-3) was crushed 99-55 on the road by the leading Povoa in the North group. It's Tonet's first season with the team. Tonet has averaged so far 2.0ppg and 3.0rpg.
