Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Angolans who are currently playing abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an international center
Yanick Moreira (211-91, agency:
BeoBasket, college:
SMU, currently plays in Basketball Champions League). He was the major contributor in
AEK's victory against the third-ranked Tsmoki-Minsk (1-1) crushing them
95-69 in the Basketball Champions League in Wednesday night's game.
Moreira recorded 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 25 minutes on the court.
AEK Athens (2-0) is placed first in group C.
There are only four games left until the end of the Basketball Champions League Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
It's Moreira's first season with the team.
He has individually a very good year with high stats. Moreira averages: 16.0ppg, 7.5rpg, 2.5apg, 2FGP: 75.0%(12-16) and FT: 72.7% in two games he played so far.
He is currently a member of the Angolan senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to former international power forward
Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal). Monteiro contributed to
Imortal's victory against the 11th-ranked Maia Basket (1-5)
89-80 in the Portuguese LPB last Saturday.
He recorded 6 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
Imortal Luzigas Albufeira (4-2) is placed third in the LPB.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
Monteiro's overall stats this year are: 8.6ppg, 4.8rpg, 2.2apg, 2FGP: 46.4%, 3FGP: 13.3% and FT: 55.0%.
He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Portuguese.
Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he played also for the Angolan national team in 2014.
#3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard
Jaques Conceicao (190-89, agency:
Promo Sport ID, currently plays in Portugal). Conceicao could not help the league outsider
Galitos-Barreiro (0-5) in their last game. Despite his good performance Galitos-Barreiro lost
83-89 on the road to the higher-ranked (#10) Academica.
Conceicao recorded 12 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 23 minutes.
So far Galitos-Barreiro lost all five games in the Regular Season.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
This year Conceicao's overall stats are: 6.4ppg, 3.6rpg, 3.0apg, 2FGP: 19.0%, 3FGP: 26.7% and FT: 57.1% in five games.
Ex-Desportivo 1. De Agosto Luanda player is also a member of the Angolan senior national team.
#4. Forward
Julio De Assis (203-92, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help
Menorca in their game against Prat (6-0) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). His contribution was not very remarkable in Sunday's game.
De Assis scored only 2 points.
The fourth-placed Menorca (4-1) was defeated
78-72 at home by the leading Prat in the East group.
They ended the series of four consecutive victories.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
De Assis' total stats this season are: 6.4ppg and 3.2rpg.
He is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Spanish.
