We bring you last week's top performances from Angolans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an international center
Yanick Moreira (211-91, agency:
BeoBasket, college:
SMU, currently plays in Basketball Champions League). He was the major contributor in
AEK's victory against Hapoel Holon
100-96 in the Basketball Champions League in Wednesday night's game.
Moreira had a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 10 rebounds. He also added 3 assists in 22 minutes on the court. It was his first game for AEK this season.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. His team is placed first in the Basketball Champions League.
Moreira played for the Angolan senior national team one years ago.
#2. Second place goes to former international forward
Julio De Assis (203-92, currently plays in Spain). He led
Menorca to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked La Roda (0-2)
80-61 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) last Saturday.
De Assis scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds.
Hestia Menorca (4-0) is placed second in East group.
So far his team won all four games in the Regular Season.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
This year De Assis averages: 7.5ppg, 3.8rpg, 2FGP: 55.6% (10-18), 3FGP: 33.3%.
He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Spanish.
De Assis played for the Angolan national team in 2018.
#3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward
Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal). He led
Imortal to a victory against one of league's weakest teams Galitos-Barreiro (0-4)
76-62 in the Portuguese LPB on Saturday night.
Monteiro scored 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 29 minutes.
Imortal Luzigas Albufeira (4-2) is placed third in the LPB.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
This year Monteiro's overall stats are: 9.3ppg, 4.5rpg, 2.0apg, 2FGP: 46.2%, 3FGP: 9.1% and FT: 55.6% in four games he played so far.
He is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Portuguese.
Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he played also for the Angolan national team in 2014.
#4. Guard
Jaques Conceicao (190-89, agency:
Promo Sport ID, currently plays in Portugal) faced previously mentioned Antonio Monteiro in the Portuguese LPB last game.
Conceicao. He could not help
Galitos-Barreiro (0-4) to beat Imortal (3-1).
Conceicao scored 5 points and added 3 passes.
Galitos-Barreiro was defeated
76-62 at home by the much higher-ranked Imortal (#6).
So far Galitos-Barreiro lost all four games in the Regular Season.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
It's Conceicao's first year with the team.
His total stats this season are: 5.0ppg, 3.5rpg, 2.8apg and 1.3spg.
Conceicao used to play for the Angolan national team
last year.
#5. An experienced former international forward
Jorge Tati (197-83, currently plays in Portugal) was not able to help
CA Queluz in their game against Academia (2-1) in the Portuguese Proliga (second division). He cannot count it as his best performance.
Tati recorded only 2 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 30 minutes.
The fifth-placed CA Queluz (1-2) was edged
70-68 on the road by the higher-ranked (#3) Academia in the South group.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
This year Tati's total stats are: 5.7ppg, 9.3rpg and 1.3spg in three games.
He used to play for the Angolan national team
eight years ago.
The list of other players, who all have Angolan passport but never been selected to any of Angolan national teams: #1. Experienced
Benedito Suca (196-F-84, currently plays in Portugal) was the major contributor in
Academia's victory against the fifth-ranked CA Queluz (1-2)
70-68 in the Portuguese Proliga (second division) in Saturday night's game.
Suca recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 12 rebounds.
Academia do Lumiar Lisboa (2-1) is placed third in South group.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
It's Suca's tenth year with the team.
He has relatively good stats this season: 11.0ppg, 8.5rpg and 1.5spg.
#2. Rafael Silva (185-G, college:
San Jacinto, currently plays in Portugal) managed to help S.C. Lusitania EXPERT in a victory against the closely-ranked Ovarense (2-3)
75-69 in the Portuguese LPB last Saturday.
Silva scored only 2 points in 6 minutes on the court.
S.C. Lusitania EXPERT (4-1) is placed fifth in the LPB.
It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row.
But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen.
It's Silva's first year with the team.
This season his total stats are: 1.3ppg and 1.3rpg in three games he played so far.
