Here is the weekly review of the top performing Angolan players, who play currently abroad.


Yanick Moreira

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Yanick Moreira (211-91, agency: BeoBasket, college: SMU, currently plays in Greece). He managed to help AEK Athens in a victory against the ninth-ranked Ionikos Nikaias (0-1) 81-68 in the Greek A1 in Saturday night's game. Moreira recorded only 2 points in 10 minutes on the court. It was his first game for AEK this season. His team is placed first in the A1. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Moreira played for the Angolan senior national team one years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international forward Julio De Assis (203-92, currently plays in Spain). He contributed to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked Jairis (0-1) 77-59 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) last Saturday. De Assis scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Hestia Menorca (3-0) is placed first in East group. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year De Assis averages: 5.3ppg, 2.3rpg, 2FGP: 54.5% and FT: 33.3%. He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Spanish. De Assis played for the Angolan national team in 2018.

   #3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was former international power forward Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal). He contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Esgueira (0-3) crushing them 101-50 in the Portuguese LPB on Saturday night. Monteiro scored 9 points and added 4 assists in 20 minutes. Imortal Luzigas Albufeira (4-2) is placed third in the LPB. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. This year Monteiro's overall stats are: 8.7ppg, 4.3rpg, 2.3apg, 3FGP: 12.5% and FT: 58.3% in three games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Portuguese. Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he played also for the Angolan national team in 2014.

Jaques Conceicao

   #4. Guard Jaques Conceicao (190-89, agency: Promo Sport ID, currently plays in Portugal). Conceicao could not help Galitos-Barreiro (0-3) to beat Ovarense (2-1). He scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. But the bottom-ranked Galitos-Barreiro was defeated 83-73 on the road by the much higher-ranked Ovarense (#6). So far Galitos-Barreiro lost all three games in the Regular Season. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. Conceicao's total stats this season are: 5.0ppg, 3.7rpg, 2.7apg and 1.7spg. He used to play for the Angolan national team last year.

   #5. An experienced former international forward Jorge Tati (197-83, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to a CA Queluz's victory against the eighth-ranked Olhanense (0-1) 65-57 in the Portuguese Proliga (second division) on Saturday night. He scored 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Clube Atletico Queluz (1-1) is placed fourth in South group. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. Tati's total stats this season are: 7.5ppg, 11.0rpg, 1.5apg and 2.0spg. He used to play for the Angolan national team eight years ago.

Experienced Benedito Suca (196-F-84, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to an easy victory against the sixth-ranked Chamusca (1-1) crushing them 79-59 in the Portuguese Proliga (second division) last Sunday. Suca scored 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 23 minutes. It was his first game for Academia this season. His team is placed fifth in South group. But the season is still in its first stage and everything can happen. It's Suca's tenth year with the team.
