Defending champion Atletico Petroleos de Luanda (Division I) agreed terms with 29-year old Angolan center Valdelicio Joaquim (208-111kg-90, college: Hawaii, agency: Duran International). It is actually his comeback to Luanda as he has played here before. Joaquim played last summer at Chicago in Eurobasket Summer League in Las Vegas1, which is considered top international summer league on the market. The last season he played at Quimper UJAP (ProB) in French league where in 34 games he had 13.5ppg, 7.0rpg and 1.0apg. Quite impressive season as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-French ProB Honorable Mention.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Joaquim was voted Afrobasket.com All-African Champions Cup 1st Team back in 2016.
He represented Angola at the Afrobasket Championships in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) six years ago. Joaquim's team won Gold and his stats at that event were 4 games: 2.0ppg, 1.5rpg.
Joaquim's career allowed him to visit four different continents. He tasted the life as pro basketball player in Europe, Latin America, Africa and of course North America. Joaquim has played previously professionally in Argentina (Obras Basket), France (STB Le Havre) and Angola (Petro de Luanda and Libolo).
He attended University of Hawaii until 2013 and it will be his seventh season as a professional player.
On Joaquim: The most dominant center currently playing in African continent, one of the best players of University of Hawaii basketball program ever.
Starting five big man of the Angolan National Team with huge upside and potential to compete at the highest level in Europe. His further development will show if he can reach the NBA level as some point
