Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Angolans who are currently playing abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former international guard Edmir Lucas (191-93, currently plays in United Kingdom). He could not help London CR (14-10) in their last game. Despite Lucas' very good performance London CR lost 78-86 on the road to the second-ranked Leicester Riders. He was the top scorer with 19 points. Lucas also added 3 assists in 29 minutes on the court. Lucas has relatively good stats this year: 10.5ppg, 2.8rpg, 2.6apg, 2FGP: 53.1%, 3FGP: 44.2% and FT: 63.6% in 21 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Portuguese and Angolan. Former Desportivo 1. De Agosto Luanda starter played for the Angolan senior national team two years ago.

Antonio Monteiro

   #2. Second place goes to former international forward Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal). Monteiro contributed to a FC Porto's victory against the second-ranked Benfica (22-5) 84-79 in the Portuguese LPB last Sunday. He scored 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Places 1-6. FC Porto (21-6) is placed third. It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. This season Monteiro averages: 4.6ppg, 4.7rpg, 2FGP: 47.4%, 3FGP: 31.0% and FT: 47.8%. He is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Portuguese. Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he played also for the Angolan national team in 2014.

   #3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Yanick Moreira (211-91, college: SMU, currently plays in Italy). Moreira was not able to help Virtus Bologna in their game against Banco di Srd (13-12) in the Italian Serie A. It was not his best game last Sunday. Moreira scored only 3 points in 11 minutes. Virtus Bologna was badly defeated 90-72 in Sassari by the higher-ranked (#9) Banco di Srd. This year Moreira's overall stats are: 7.6ppg, 6.4rpg, 2FGP: 59.0%(36-61) and FT: 52.2% in 11 games. He is also a member of the Angolan senior national team.

   #4. Center Valdelicio Joaquim (208-90, agency: Duran International, college: Hawaii, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Quimper UJAP (9-16) in their last game on Friday. Despite Joaquim's very good performance Quimper UJAP was edged 90-87 in Bischwiller by the much higher-ranked Gries/Oberhoffen (#7). He recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 11 rebounds. This season Joaquim has relatively solid stats: 13.8ppg and 7.6rpg. He used to play for the Angolan national team back in 2017.

   #5. International forward Julio De Assis (203-92, also represented by Duran International, currently plays in Spain) led Univ.Burgos to a victory over the third-ranked Pas Pielagos (19-5) 76-70 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday. De Assis was MVP of the game. He recorded 17 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and made 3 blocks in 38 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in Group A-A. CB Universidad de Burgos (21-3) is placed second. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. De Assis has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 20.4ppg, 7.9rpg, 2.4apg and 1.2spg in 22 games. De Assis has both Angolan and Spanish nationalities. He plays currently for the Angolan national team.

   #6. An experienced forward Jose Miguel (185-85, currently plays in Portugal) helped Electrico FC win their game against the leader Ginasio (13-13) 80-75 in the Portuguese Proliga (second division) on Saturday night. Miguel scored 13 points and added 3 passes. Electrico FC (11-14) is placed fourth in Group B. There are only two games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game is very crucial. It's Miguel's first season with the team. His total stats this year are: 9.0ppg, 3.9rpg, 1.1apg and 1.1spg. Miguel is a former university international player as he played for the Angolan team twelve years ago.

The list of other players, who all have Angolan passport but never been selected to any of Angolan national teams:

   #1. Experienced Benedito Suca (196-F-84, currently plays in Portugal) led Academia to a victory over the sixth-ranked Sampaense (13-13) 64-53 in the Portuguese Proliga (second division) in Sunday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Suca scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 34 minutes. Academia do Lumiar Lisboa (19-7) is placed third in Group A. There are only two games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. Suca is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his eighth year in Academia's roster. He has reliable stats this season: 13.9ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.3apg in 26 games he played so far.

   #2. Fernando Mussongo (198-F-96, currently plays in Switzerland) managed to help Lugano Tigers to win against the fifth-ranked Starwings (0-2) 87-86 in the Swiss SBL last Saturday. Mussongo scored only 4 points. Lugano Tigers (3-0) are placed first in Places 7-11 group. So far his team won all three games in the Second Stage. They will play only one more game in the Second Stage. And now that game is very crucial. Mussongo's total stats this season are: 2.7ppg and 2.6rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Swiss.

   #3. Edson Ferreira (183-G-86, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to a Electrico FC's victory against the leader Ginasio (13-13) 80-75 in the Portuguese Proliga (second division) on Saturday night. Ferreira scored only 2 points in 8 minutes on the court. Electrico FC (11-14) is placed fourth in Group B. There are only two games left until the end of the Second Stage. This year Ferreira's total stats are: 4.6ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.1apg in 21 games.

1 de Agosto - Interclube 87-84 1 de Agosto have won their 15th Cup title in Angola. In the Final game they overcame Interclube 87-84 even trailing at the halftime. The latter had a 47-44 lead, while Agosto managed to pull a 68-60 advantage after three quarters. Eduardo Mingas (200-F/C-79) top-scored for the winners with 24 points and Emmanuel Quezada (188-PG-85, college: USF) notched 18. AfroLeague2019: Final four set to happen in Luanda - 7 days ago
The final stage of the first edition of the Africa Basketball League (AfroLeague), now dubbed Final Four, will take place in May in Luanda, the vice chairman of the Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB), Benjamim Romano, has confirmed. Four teams will be participating in the final event of the newly-reformulated African Champion Clubs Cup, which started early this year with the participation of 16 teams (now dubbed Elite-8)   [read more]
