Eight time champions Primeiro de Agosto became the first team to advance to the last four of the FIBA Africa Basketball League following their 74-57 win over compatriot Petro Atletico de Luanda on Friday at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda in Angola. Agosto continued from where they left off two weeks ago where they beat Petro Atletico 70-57 on their home court as they led 23-13 at the end of the first quarter. Petro Atletico went into the game needing to overturn a 13-point deficit but Agosto took over the driving seat. Atletico reduced the deficit to 5 points (36-31) heading to the break after they outscored Agosto 18-13 in the second quarter. Agosto however led with as many as 19 points midway into the third quarter and never looked back. Felizardo Ambrosio (202-F-87) finished with a game high 20 points and 80% from the free throw line. Islando Manuel (192-F-91) and Eduardo Mingas (200-F/C-79) had 14 points each. Manuel made 2/2 from the deep while 40 year old Mingas was influential had both ends of the floor adding seven rebounds. Emmanuel Quezada (188-PG-85, college: USF) was one short of a double-double adding 11 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, and two steals for Agosto. Petro Atletico made just 8 three pointers out of 41 attempts made in the game and 13/22 from the line. Carlos Morais (200-G-85, agency: Duran International) had 14 points while Leonel Paulo (197-F-89) added 11 points for Petro Atletico. Agosto closed the two game series with a 144-114 win on aggregate and will face the winner between Smouha and Al Ahly in the final four in May while Petro Atletico end their FIBA ABL campaign with a 2-3 record.
