We bring you last week's top performances from Angolans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Yanick Moreira (211-91, college: SMU, currently plays in Italy). He could not help Virtus Bologna (10-11) to beat Umana Venezia (15-6). Moreira scored 7 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in 24 minutes on the court. Virtus Bologna was edged 77-76 at home by the second-ranked Umana Venezia. It was Virtus Bologna's third consecutive loss in a row. Moreira has relatively good stats this year: 10.3ppg, 8.3rpg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 59.1%(26-44) and FT: 62.5% in six games he played so far. He is currently a member of the Angolan senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Jone Lopes (208-90, currently plays in Portugal). Lopes was not able to help Galitos-Barreiro (6-15) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance Galitos-Barreiro was defeated 81-77 on their home court in Barreiro by the higher-ranked Benfica (#6). Lopes was the second best scorer with 22 points. He also added 6 rebounds. The Regular Season already ended. This season Lopes has relatively solid stats: 14.7ppg, 4.7rpg, 2FGP: 65.2%(15-23) and FT: 88.9%. He has a dual citizenship: German and Angolan. Lopes is in the roster of the Angolan senior national team.

   #3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Bruno Fernando (208-98, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA. He was not able to secure a victory for the Maryland (13-7) in their last game. Despite Fernando's good performance the Maryland lost 62-69 on the road to the University of Michigan. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds. Fernando also added 6 blocks in 39 minutes. The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA. Fernando has reliable stats this year: 14.0ppg, 10.5rpg, 2.0apg, 1.9bpg, 2FGP: 63.5%(162-255), 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 76.6% in 31 games. He played for the Angolan national team three years ago.

Antonio Monteiro

   #4. Forward Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked CAB Madeira (9-11) crushing them 93-61 in the Portuguese LPB in Sunday night's game. Monteiro recorded 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. FC Porto (16-6) is placed third in the LPB. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. The Regular Season already ended. Monteiro's overall stats this season are: 4.6ppg and 4.6rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Portuguese. Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he is currently in the Angolan national team roster.

   #5. International forward Julio De Assis (203-92, agency: Duran International, currently plays in Spain) led Univ.Burgos to a victory over the seventh-ranked Miraflores (11-9) 95-77 in a derby game in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday. De Assis was MVP of the game. He scored 28 points (!!!) and grabbed 7 rebounds in 36 minutes. CB Universidad de Burgos (17-3) is placed second in Group A-A. De Assis has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 20.3ppg, 8.2rpg, 2.5apg and 1.3spg in 18 games. De Assis has both Angolan and Spanish nationalities. He plays currently for the Angolan national team.

   #6. Center Valdelicio Joaquim (208-90, also represented by Duran International, college: Hawaii, currently plays in France) couldn't help Quimper UJAP (7-14) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Joaquim's very good performance Quimper UJAP was edged 91-89 in Blois by the higher-ranked ADA Blois (#9). He scored 15 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It's Joaquim's first season with the team. Joaquim's stats this year are: 13.5ppg and 7.5rpg. He is a former international player as he played for the Angolan senior team two years ago.

Edmir Lucas

   #7. Former international guard Edmir Lucas (191-93, currently plays in United Kingdom) couldn't help London CR (11-7) in their game against Cheshire Phoenix (11-12) in the British BBL. Lucas cannot count it as his best performance. He scored only 3 points in 27 minutes. London CR lost 82-88 in Chester to the lower-ranked (#6) Cheshire Phoenix. They ended the series of five consecutive victories. Lucas averaged so far 10.7ppg, 2.7rpg, 3.1apg and 1.1spg in 15 games. He used to play for the Angolan national team two years ago.

   #8. An experienced forward Jose Miguel (185-85, currently plays in Portugal) couldn't help Electrico FC (9-13) in their game against Dragon Force (9-12) in the Portuguese Proliga (second division). Miguel scored 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. But the fifth-placed Electrico FC (9-13) was defeated 72-61 on their home court in Ponte de Sor by the higher-ranked Dragon Force (#3) in the Group B. Miguel's overall stats this season are: 9.2ppg, 4.2rpg and 1.1spg. He used to play for the Angolan university national team back in 2007.


The list of other players, who all have Angolan passport but never been selected to any of Angolan national teams:

   #1. Fernando Mussongo (198-F-96, currently plays in Switzerland) contributed to a Lugano Tigers' victory against the seventh-ranked Boncourt (8-11) 97-88 in the Swiss SBL on Saturday night. Mussongo scored 7 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 32 minutes. Lugano Tigers (4-0) are placed first in the SBL. So far his team won all four games in the Regular Season. They will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. This year Mussongo's overall stats are: 2.5ppg and 2.7rpg in 17 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Angolan and Swiss.

   #2. Experienced Sergio Correia (198-F-85, currently plays in Portugal) could not help Imortal (3-19) in their last game on Friday. Despite Correia's good performance the bottom-ranked Imortal was defeated 100-89 on the road by the higher-ranked Terceira (#6). He scored 10 points. The Regular Season already ended. Correia's overall stats this season are: 7.8ppg and 3.3rpg.

   #3. Edson Ferreira (183-G-86, currently plays in Portugal) was not able to help Electrico FC in their game against Dragon Force (9-12) in the Portuguese Proliga (second division). He scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 24 minutes. Electrico FC (#5) lost 61-72 at home to the higher-ranked (#3) Dragon Force in the Group B. This year Ferreira's overall stats are: 4.5ppg, 2.6rpg and 2.2apg in 19 games.

   #4. Benedito Suca (196-F-84, currently plays in Portugal) was not able to secure a victory for Academia (16-6) in their game against Maia Basket (15-7) in the Portuguese Proliga (second division). He scored 6 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Academia (#3) was crushed 79-58 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked Maia_Basket (#4) in the Group A. Suca is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his eighth year in Academia's roster. Suca averaged so far 13.4ppg, 6.4rpg, 1.4apg and 1.2bpg.

   #5. Fabio Galiano (202-PF-97, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help Itzehoe (11-11) in their game against Giessen 46ers II (14-8) in the German ProB (third division). He cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Galiano recorded only 2 points in 14 minutes. Itzehoe (#7) was crushed 100-76 in Giessen by the second-ranked 46ers II in the North group. This year Galiano's overall stats are: 3.0ppg and 2.5rpg in 24 games.
