We bring you last week's top performances from Angolans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is former international guard Edmir Lucas (191-93, currently plays in United Kingdom). He led London CR to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Scorchers (4-16) crushing them 94-73 in the British BBL in Sunday night's game. Lucas was MVP of the game. He scored 18 points and added 5 passes in a mere 17 minutes on the court. London City Royals (10-6) is placed fourth in the BBL. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. It's Lucas' first season with the team. Lucas has relatively good stats this year: 10.8ppg, 2.9rpg, 3.5apg, 2FGP: 48.8%, 3FGP: 48.3%(28-58) in 13 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Portuguese and Angolan. Former Desportivo 1. De Agosto Luanda starter played for the Angolan senior national team two years ago.

Carlos Morais

   #2. Second place goes to an experienced international guard Carlos Morais (200-85, agency: Duran International, currently plays in Italy). Morais could not help Mens Sana 1871 (10-12) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance the 12th-placed Mens Sana 1871 (10-12) was defeated 96-82 on the road by the higher-ranked Pall. Trapani (#11) in the West group. Morais was the second best scorer with 17 points. He also added 5 rebounds. Morais has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 15.4ppg, 5.7rpg, 3.1apg, 2FGP: 47.0%, 3FGP: 39.7% and FT: 88.1%. Morais is another player who holds two passports: Angolan and Portuguese. He is in the roster of the Angolan senior national team.

   #3. The Angolan player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Bruno Fernando (208-98, currently plays college basketball in the States). Fernando contributed to Maryland's surprising victory against the Purdue University 70-56 in the NCAA on Tuesday night. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Fernando also added 4 assists in 34 minutes. The University of Maryland has a very good - conference record this season. This year Fernando has relatively solid stats: 14.5ppg, 10.6rpg, 1.9apg, 1.9bpg, 2FGP: 67.6%(142-210), 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 75.9% in 26 games. He played for the Angolan national team three years ago.

   #4. Forward Antonio Monteiro (204-89, currently plays in Portugal) contributed to a FC Porto's victory against one of league's weakest teams Galitos-Barreiro (5-12) 102-98 in the Portuguese LPB last Saturday. He scored 6 points in only 7 minutes. FC Porto (13-5) is placed third in the LPB. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This year Monteiro's overall stats are: 4.8ppg and 4.6rpg in 16 games. He has both Angolan and Portuguese nationalities. Despite Monteiro played previously for the Portuguese U20 national team, he is currently in the Angolan national team roster.

   #5. Former international center Valdelicio Joaquim (208-90, also represented by Duran International, college: Hawaii, currently plays in France) was not able to help Quimper UJAP (6-12) in their last game on Thursday. Despite Joaquim's good performance Quimper UJAP was badly defeated 93-74 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Paris (#11). He recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and getting 14 rebounds. Joaquim also added 2 blocks. Joaquim has reliable stats this season: 14.0ppg, 8.1rpg and 1.1apg. He used to play for the Angolan national team two years ago.

   #6. Forward Julio De Assis (203-92, another player represented by Duran International, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for Univ.Burgos (15-2) in their last game. Despite De Assis' very good performance Univ.Burgos was edged 72-70 in Zizur Mayor by the second-ranked Ardoi in the Group A-A. He was the top scorer with 19 points. De Assis also added 2 blocks in 33 minutes. They ended the series of eight consecutive victories. De Assis has very impressive stats this year: 20.7ppg, 8.5rpg, 2.7apg and 1.4spg in 15 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Angolan National Team roster.

   #7. Former University international forward Jose Miguel (185-85, currently plays in Portugal) couldn't help Electrico FC (7-11) in their game against Sport Lisboa Benfica B (7-11) in the Portuguese Proliga (second division). He recorded 5 points in 30 minutes. Electrico FC (#5) lost 55-59 at home to the higher-ranked (#4) Sport Lisboa Benfica B in the Group B. This year Miguel's total stats are: 9.8ppg, 3.8rpg and 1.3spg in 12 games. He used to play for the Angolan university national team twelve years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Angolan passport but never been selected to any of Angolan national teams:

   #1. Experienced Benedito Suca (196-F-84, currently plays in Portugal) led Academia to a victory over the sixth-ranked Academica (11-7) 87-70 in the Portuguese Proliga (second division) in Sunday night's game. Suca was the best player in that game. He recorded 29 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Academia do Lumiar Lisboa (14-4) is placed second in Group A. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Suca is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his eighth year in Academia's roster. Suca has reliable stats this season: 12.8ppg, 6.3rpg, 1.3apg and 1.1bpg.

   #2. Edson Ferreira (183-G-86, currently plays in Portugal). Ferreira could not help Electrico FC (7-11) to beat Sport Lisboa Benfica B (7-11). He recorded 9 points. But Electrico FC (#5) was defeated 59-55 at home by the higher-ranked Sport Lisboa Benfica B (#4) in the Group B. Ferreira's total stats this season are: 4.4ppg, 2.6rpg and 2.5apg.

   #3. Sergio Correia (198-F-85, currently plays in Portugal) was not able to help Imortal in their game against CAB Madeira (7-10) in the Portuguese LPB. Correia cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. He scored only 3 points. The bottom-ranked Imortal was defeated 77-66 on their home court in Albufeira by the higher-ranked CAB Madeira (#8). It was Imortal's 11th consecutive loss in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Correia has averaged so far 7.6ppg and 3.4rpg.

   #4. Paulo Sopita (203-PF-93, currently plays in Japan) was not able to secure a victory for Iwate Big Bulls (5-23) in their game against Gifu Swoops (12-16) in the Japanese B League D3. He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Sopita recorded only 2 points in 6 minutes on the court. Iwate Big Bulls lost 70-76 on the road to the higher-ranked (#7) Gifu Swoops. Sopita has averaged so far 1.6ppg and 2.2rpg in 37 games he played so far.
